Autumn is upon us. The mornings are very dark, and with the clocks going back on Saturday night we are now into the fourth month of the year. This week I received a well worded email describing a now common issue that seems to be occurring on our course, slow play. The new rules of golf are now 4 months old, and one of the major changes to occur was the time taken to look for a ball if it is lost. The new rules state (rule 18.2a) that the time limit is 3 minutes from when the player or his or her caddie begins to search for it. Please be aware of the time taken that you are looking for the ball. There are also ways to mitigate the potential delay to those players behind you if you hit a wayward shot. Play a provisional ball (rule 18.3a). Murphy’s law dictates that this will go straight as an arrow (hopefully). This is not the first time that I have received a complaint in respect to slow play and the players behind being shown poor courtesy in respect to being held up on the course. The match committee are going to consider some options to potentially manage this and/or consider some type of sanction. The pace of play is important to all of us. It is good etiquette to keep up with the group in front of you not just in front of the group behind you!
The Metro A and B teams play semi-finals at Avondale on Sunday. Both teams have a good chance of making the finals. Best of luck to both teams. Dad’s army, the Presidents team lie in 3rd place with 2 rounds to go int their round robin competition. Well done to the Over 60’s team of Bill Wekking, John Hamilton, Keith Mabin and Tony Tully who finished second in the over 60’s competition.
The strong Nor-Easter on last Saturday affected the scoring in the Men’s Par competition off the blue tees. There were only 6 of 33 players in the positives in div II, and 9 of 35 players in the div 1 fields. Hopefully the wind doesn’t get up this weekend for the Monthly medal (Black/Blue/White tees) and affect the scoring.

Best of luck for Matt McLean and Craig this week at the Akarana Open. Enjoy golf this weekend – I may see you out on the course during your round!
