Club Captain Update – from Doug Claridge

Success for the club! The Metro interclub finals were held last Sunday at Waitikiri Golf Club, both the Metro A and B teams made the final. The Metro A team won 5 ½ to 2 ½ against Waimairi Beach, and the Metro B team drew 4 all after the 8 matches against Russley but lost the sudden death play-off on the second hole. Well done to the Metro A team led by Terry Coleman, and players Barry Coleman, Ray Coleman, Pete Coleman, Colin Posa, Guy Chambers, John Hamilton and Marcus Wyatt.

Both Metro teams used a large number of players over the long season and all players need to be congratulated on their efforts in helping both teams make the final. Unfortunately, the playoff didn’t go the Metro B’s way but making the final is a great effort. Hopefully our Pollock, Woodward, Blank and Simon Cup teams can keep the momentum going over the season this year. Well done also to Debbie Scott who managed the Canterbury Women’s Masters team to a win in the NZ Women’s Masters at Nelson Golf Club. Easter is upon us and the Easter Combined Shotgun gets under way on Saturday at 11.30am. Entries with Craig in the pro shop. The next weekend of April 27 is the 3rd round (quarter final) of the 4 ball best ball competition. There are some interesting match -ups in the draw and the results are often eagerly anticipated in the late afternoon in the club rooms. The course has been in great condition, the greens are quick and fairways have good cover. Those of us who played last weekend enjoyed Colin’s “Masters“ pin placements – it certainly reflected in the scoring in the competition. Keep repairing your pitch marks and divots to keep the good course condition. The course is being used this week for the South Island Men U19 champs, Under 19 and Under 16 interprovincial tournament so it should in great condition for golf over the long weekend.

Metro A – Champions 2019!

As mentioned by Doug in his earlier report, the Metro A squad had a great win in the final last Sunday vs Waimairi Beach at Waitikiri.

Manager Terry Coleman told awaiting media “It was a good season by a strong squad made better by the fact we only lost 2 round robin matches and got to reverse those losses in the semi-final (Russley) and the final (Waimairi). Congratulations to the entire squad.”

Well done to all involved – a photo of the winning team on the day is attached.

Metro B – Oh So Close!

Manager Steve Thomas reports “Unfortunately not the outcome we were looking for yesterday in our final against Russley. We finished the match all square with 4 wins each forcing a play off to decide the result, and Russley got the win on the 2nd play-off hole. Congrats to Russley on their win, we halved the match with them in pool play and then again in the final, so it was a close-run thing to the end. I want to thank all who were involved this season, we had 16 players take part and everyone made a valuable contribution which is much appreciated, and it was great to have so many making themselves available. I’ll look forward to another attempt at the title next season.”

Great season guys.
