Club Captain Update – from Doug Claridge

Unfortunately, the Queen’s Birthday Shotgun tournament was cancelled due the course being closed due to surface flooding.

I’m not sure if anyone would have wanted to play in the inclement conditions last Saturday. The course was open for play on Sunday for those that were keen, and it was in fantastic condition when I played on Monday. In talking to Colin, our Greenkeeper he said the course was needing the rain to get some groundwater for spring. The course is definitely now in winter conditions. The fairways are soft and greens receptive. It was noticeable on Monday the number of the fresh divots not being replaced by players in front of me. Again, I remind players to be proactive in looking after the course; replace and fill your divots (and even others), repair your pitch marks and rake the bunkers after being caught in the sand traps. There is nothing worse to be doubly penalised in the bunker when your ball is sitting in someone’s foot marks!

This weekend is the start of the winter tee times. Please be on time for your allocated tee time to reduce the potential for delays in the field. The Men are playing a Monthly Medal Stroke round, and the Ladies have an FMS stableford. Met service is forecasting a fine day, good weather for playing good golf, I hope.

The BCHP draw is out. It is posted on the website, in the Proshop and in the Clubhouse. The first round of the BCHP is the 15th of June, and the second round to be played on the 22nd of June. If you have entered this competition, please play on the days scheduled in the draw.

I hope you all enjoy your golf this weekend.

The Pollock, Woodward, Blank and Simon Cup season is due to start a month later this year, with the first rounds being Sunday August 11th (Pollock Cup still TBC). We have gone close in recent years in some of these comps so we are very keen to secure at least one trophy in 2019.

Members keen on representing the Club are invited to register their interest with GM Neville for Woodward, Blank & Simon Cup squads, and for Pollock Cup please contact Julie Jones.

Julie – bj_jones@xtra.co.nz

Neville – neville@harewoodgolf.co.nz

You can also add your name to the list on display in the pro shop.

We will organise trial dates for those who register interest – probably a Sunday(s) late June/early July.

AGM 2019
Monday July 8th from 7pm

As previously advised, the 2019 AGM with be held in the Clubhouse on Monday July 8th from 7:00pm.

Nominations of members willing to act as officers or members of the Board are sought, with two positions for Director and one for President being available. Mrs Jane Yee is seeking re-election as a Director as part of the two-year Board rotation process. Mr Phillip Rotherham is not seeking re-election as a Director. Mr Greg Hedges is seeking re-election as President.

Nominations should be lodged with the General Manager 28 clear days before the date of the Annual General Meeting, this date being Monday June 10th. A complete list of all nominated members, the positions for which they have been nominated, together with the names of their respective proposers and seconders will be posted in the Clubhouse by June 14th.

A nomination form is attached and are also available from the office.

Driving Range – Member Safety

Staff have noticed driving range users being in front of the hitting area when others are also using the range.

Whilst we know some members are assisting us with ball collection, particularly from the rough areas where our ball-picker can’t go to, safety is paramount so ball collection when the range is in use is forbidden at all times.

Also, a timely reminder that only the Clubs range balls should be used on the range and these need to be paid for. Any member or guest who is seen collecting balls from the range for their own use and/or taking range balls to their car for future use will face consequences, including a potential ban from the range.
