Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

The Nor’easter wind makes golf tough on the Woodlands Course. Last weekend’s scores in the Men’s monthly medal certainly reflected the strong Nor’easter that blew all day. The course continues to suffer with the dry spell of weather. Colin and his team are working hard to keep up with the watering in areas of heavy traffic. Like all parts of the country we are suffering from little rain. This year the course has only had only just over 10mm for January and February. Please be aware that the smoking ban is in place. There are still cigarette butts being discarded on the course and obvious sign that there are still smokers ignoring the ban. The last thing we want is a fire in the dry grass.

In keeping with the course theme, there has been a noticeable increase of divots on the fairways, and divots on the greens. A reminder to all players please carry a sand bucket to repair divots and please repair pitch marks on the green and on the fringes. The green fringes have been punched this week, so there will be pitch marks on these areas. These pitch marks can affect a players shot selection – especially if your choice of shot is a Texas Wedge!

Jennian Homes Canterbury are supporting our club even further by giving every player playing in the Saturday Competition one free Jennian branded Srixon golf ball for every 2 you score, in a sponsorship called the “Jennian Two’s”. This promotion will run at this stage until 23rd May this year, and hopefully it can be extended. “Thanks Jennian, we realise you already support the club substantially by way of the driving range sponsorship and the 4BBB competitions, we appreciate this additional support.”

This weekend is the first (of 2) qualifying rounds for the men for the Jennian 4BBB and the qualifying round for the ladies Jennian 4BBB. Remember it’s a combined best nett qualifying with your nominated partner.

Mid-Week Women update - from Robyn Campbell

It is with sadness that we report the passing of our dear friend Chris Sparks, wife of Tony who pre-deceased her 3 years ago. Both Tony and Chris were long standing members of Harewood.

Our sincere condolences at this time go out to their sons, Tim, Richard, Steve and their respective families. Thank you to all who attended the service for Chris on Wednesday 19 February. From my observations the pastoral care shown by and to all members is something that we all can be very proud of and definitely need to hold onto here at Harewood.

The Armstrong Motor Group 2020 Twilight Series

The 2nd night of 8 saw a very tidy 50 players take on the back 9 on Tuesday.

Some great scoring on display again with Daniel Barr (23) taking the Men’s honours over Nick Somerville on c/b.

Victoria Webb-Smart took top spot for the Ladies on 18 points ahead of Denise Guerin, also on c/b.

A reminder that bookings are essential please so we can be super organised on the night.

Come join the fun!

Volunteer Working Bee thanks

Thank you.

Great to have 22 members in attendance on Wednesday. We had a busy morning on the course. Gardens and lots of pine cones collected. Looking nice and tidy.

Next working bee is Wednesday 8th April. See you there.

Julie Jones.
