Dear Guest, Friday, 19 June, 2020

Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

Last weekend’s and the early part of this week beautiful weather has come to an end. The heavy rain over the last days will make the course wet and heavy. The best news in looking the weather forecast that the rain is set to clear for Saturday. Met service is forecasting overcast conditions with only a chance of a shower- better than it looked earlier in the week. It is appropriate that winter golf conditions have arrived on the winter solstice weekend. The daylight gets longer from next week onwards.

This weekend is the Men’s Jennian 4BBB quarter finals (semi-finals scheduled for the 11 July) with others a stableford round. Ladies have the LGU and the first round of the Harewood Cup. The fields at present are at capacity, with all 144 slots for Saturdays’ competition play booked. The field seemed to flow last weekend with only hold ups in the usual places (3rd tee and 13th). Please be mindful of your pace of play, play ready golf and keep up with the group in front of you. Of most importance please be on time for your tee off time, as a group starting late has a concertina effect on all the players teeing off after you.

The Ladies shootout has a sponsor. Thank you to the Tekapo Luxury Apartments who have offered up an accommodation package for the winner of the Ladies shootout. Tekapo Luxury Apartments have also kindly donated sponsorship for the best Nett score in the Mens Monthly Medal finals held in November. A big thank you to Tekapo Luxury Apartments.

The Metro A and Metro B teams have their annual cup match on Sunday to decide bragging rights for the next 12 months. It should be a tight contest, thanks to Terry Coleman and Steve Thomas for organising the metro teams for the year and this annual match.” Dad’s Army” aka the Presidents team resume their interclub competition on Sunday against Clearwater at Clearwater after a break following the lockdown.

Driving Range Grass Areas Closed for Renovation

Members are advised that the grass tee area of the driving range will be closed from Saturday 20th for 2 weeks to allow the area to be renovated and recover.

Please use only the undercover bays during this time and not the grass area in front.

We will need to do this several times over the coming months to ensure the area is available and in good condition come the warmer months.

Interclub Trial – Woodward, Blank & Simon Squads
Sunday July 5th from 10am

There will be a trial on Sunday July 5th from 10am for those interested in playing Interclub.

Please add your name to the registration noticeboard in the pro shop or email me at neville@harewoodgolf.co.nz to register.

As a guide the handicaps range in Woodward from around +5 to 2, Blank 2 to 7 and Simon 6 to 10, dependent on squad depths.

AGM 2020 & Election of Officers

The date for our AGM has been set as Wednesday July 15th from 7pm in the Clubhouse.

Nominations for the three positions for Director have closed with Phil Badger, Debbie Scott and Jamie Mountier all seeking re-election.

A list of the nominated members, the positions for which they have been nominated, together with the names of their respective proposers and seconders will be posted in the Clubhouse.

Volunteer Week – let’s celebrate everyone who gives their time to golf

The following message is from NZ Golf.

“Did you know that the average golf club is supported by 22 volunteers, receives 78 hours of volunteer support per week which equates to 4074 of volunteer hours per year?

Volunteers are the essence of everything good in our game. They give up their own time, so we all have a positive golfing experience when we’re out on the course.

They play a vital role in the delivery and administration of golf throughout New Zealand. So, let’s all celebrate everything these wonderful people do for our game for Volunteer Week!

Volunteer Week runs from June 21 – 27 and is a great opportunity to thank your volunteers within your organisation. New Zealand Golf will be using the week to highlight how much our volunteers mean to the game of golf and to thank them for everything they do for our sport.

We encourage all golf clubs, districts, and organisations to do the same.”

So, in recognition of all those volunteers who selfishly donate time and effort to help Harewood I will be liaising with the volunteer coordinators on a thank-you gift as a small token of our appreciation for the work that you do.
