Coring Next Week - Volunteers

As you will note from the programme, coring will commence late Sunday and all going well we will open again for member play on Saturday 17th.

The greenkeepers could do with a few volunteers from midday on Monday and also Tuesday to assist with clearing the cores from greens.

If anyone has a few hours on either of these days then Colin would love to hear from you – please call 027 359 8843. Many thanks.

Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

Tomorrow there are good fields for both Cancer Charities Shotguns. It has been a while since the club has had shotgun start on a Saturday, let alone two. Shotgun starts are a great way to meet new members and play in a different group! A few details to remember:

         · Entry is $15.00 cash – please bring cash as the Proshop will run out of cash if everybody tries to use Eft-Pos!

         · You will be allocated a tee from the draw sheet that will be posted in the Proshop and at the registration desk. Do not assume what Dotgolf tells you is your tee.

         · Competition of the day is stableford and your entry fee includes net eagles, twos, nearest the pin and a straightest drive on no. 9 fairway. There is a prize for best gross in the morning and afternoon for men and ladies.

         · For the morning players – be at your tee ready to tee off at 8.00am. You may be playing off #14 or #15 so you will need to allow time to get to your allocated tee.

         · Prize giving will be held at the end of the morning’s shotgun at 1pm ish, and at the completion of the afternoon competition.

         · Please wear pink or blue and support the cancer charities.

The course is closed Sunday for the double round of the Woodward Cup and for the rest of the week for coring. It will reopen on Saturday 17th for a Holey Greens Stableford. Members will also notice that some gum trees have been removed on the 4th and between the 7th and 12th fairways. There is a plan in place to replace these trees during the closure for coring to provide some protection for stray balls especially between 7 and 12. Please keep an eye on your ball and call “fore” if you are wayward off the tee. Giving players some warning of a stray tee shot is good golf etiquette and safety.

Best of luck for the Woodward cup team who have a double header against Bottle Lake (am) and Christchurch (pm) at home on Sunday in the final rounds to decide the semi-finalists for the Woodward cup. The Blank team have a tough match against Russley at Waimairi Beach to keep semi-final dreams alive.

Blank Cup Report - from Phil Barlow

The Blank boys had a tough 5-3 loss against Templeton last weekend which now places them in 5th equal (6th on game points) and in a tough position trying to get to the finals.

There were 3 games down to the last 2 holes that we lost, so once again some close calls to getting a win against our arch-rivals from down the road. It was a great day for golf with high temperatures and lots of walking in the shade during the round. The fast and strange change to a strong wind part way through had some interesting effects with the tee shots following from groups in front on a couple of holes going OB. It was a quick and cool change that caught many off guard.

This weekend we have Russley at Waimairi Beach, and while they had their first loss last weekend to Clearwater, they are in a strong second place with only that single loss. So, we have a hard task against us, but as always, we will give it our best to try to get to finals day.

Make Time Play 9 – Road to The Open returns!

New Zealand Golf is excited to announce the return of Make Time Play 9 – Road to The Open.

Everyone is busy, but it’s about encouraging all golfers to get outside and make time in their day to do things that are meaningful to them, to be active, to play with their friends and family, to take on a new personal challenge, and to have fun – and what better way to do that through the game we love!

From 1 October 2020, club members who hand in a 9-hole scorecard will be in the chance to win a trip to Queenstown in 2021 to play in a special 9-hole event with eight other golfers. We will announce randomly drawn winners at the end of each month with the last player to be announced in March 2021.
