Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge
Allow images

Coring has been completed so this weekend’s competition is a stableford on the newly cored greens – aka a Holey Stableford.

The greens will be a little slower than what we are used to so make sure you hit them to the hole. The weather forecast for Saturday is looking like it will be southerly and cloudy with occasional rain. If you decide that you do not want to play, please contact the Proshop and cancel your booking, don’t just not turn up. By not cancelling your booking you cause frustrations to your playing partners who wait for you, and delays in the field for waiting. It also can mean some players are left to play on their own or need to join another group at short notice. Members are reminded that you need to enter the competition of the day and play in a pair so your scorecard can be completed. Members should not be playing as a single on Saturdays.

Last weekend the Cancer Charities Shotguns were well supported, and some good funds raised for the Breast and Prostate cancer charities.

Great to see some members making the effort to dress up – well done Kim Dale!

I played in the morning and it was good to play with members that I don’t normally play with. By all accounts the fields flowed well and in both the morning and afternoon the rounds were under 4 hrs. For those who did not attend the prizegiving’s at the end of play and were place getters the Proshop will be holding onto your sleeve of balls if you had a two, or you will have been credited into your Proshop account the prize money. Please check the Proshop board for full results from both the morning and afternoon. The next planned shotgun is the Christmas closing day on the 12th of December, which will be a two-start shotgun.

The Ladies Tekapo Luxury Apartments Shootout competition is coming to a close shortly, with the final’s day planned for Sunday 1st of November. The Men’s Peninsula Beachfront Resort Shootout finals day is scheduled for the 22nd of November, with the final round on the 14th of November. There are 75 entries with the top 19 to qualify for the Sunday. There are 4 qualifying rounds left for those players who are close to the top 19 to make it to the Sunday shootout.

Coring This Week and Course Update

A big thanks to those volunteers who helped on Monday clearing cores from the greens – it was very much appreciated by the greens staff and made their job a lot easier.

The week went very well and with it being a light coring we expect the greens to bounce back to their normal quality very quickly.

The 2 gums on 7 have been removed with 3 new maples planted. Please observe the staked trees rule as per the card.

This next week we will be having numerous tree stumps removed so there may be one or two areas of GUR whilst turf is replaced.

Member Subs 2020/21

Member subs for the 2020/21 subs year should have been paid in September so if you are yet to pay please do so now as it is a very time-consuming exercise for the office to chase debtors.

Statements have been sent and if there are any queries, issues or changes please let the office know ASAP. A reminder that if you are paying by monthly installments there is an annual $50 fee added to the base subscription.

If you wish to discuss any aspect of your membership, renewal or subs please contact the General Manager neville@harewoodgolf.co.nz or 359 8843 opt 3.

Woodward Cup Report – from Gavin O’Hara

The team were looking forward to the final 2 rounds on home soil, with an outside chance of making the semi-finals/final day.

First up was a good Bottle Lake side. There was plenty of close battles out there and with 2 fantastic halves from Harry Weeds and Kerry Branson, both 1 down with 1 to play, both managed to secure half a point each for the team and collecting a point from the mornings 4-4 draw. Good wins for Smith, Watkinson and Manyweathers. We all knew that a draw was not what we needed. Harewood still had a slim chance of making the play offs if other results went our way.

We faced Christchurch GC in the arvo and the team again produced a fantastic performance bringing home a 4.5 – 3.5 win against an already qualified team. Unfortunately, we missed out by 1 point to make the semi’s with Russley, CHCH, Pegasus and Avondale making up the top 4.

As the manager of the side this year I have thoroughly enjoyed playing, competing and managing this team of fine golfers, and I am personally gutted we have come up just shy in 2020.

We wish the top 4 finalists the very best of luck on finals day and we will dust ourselves off and prepare to go again next year.

Blank Cup Report - from Phil Barlow

The team took on a quality Russley side at Waimairi Beach last Sunday knowing they needed a win and other results to go their way if they were to have any chance of making the top 4.

It wasn’t to be and Russley deservedly won 6 ½ to 1 ½. We take on lowly Pegasus in the final round this week at Weedons and will be looking to finish the season off in style with the possibility of finishing as high as 5th.
