Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge
Cored and sandy greens led to low scores and high stableford points last weekend. A few handicaps including mine got an immediate adjustment under the World Handicap System following the low scores. This weekend the greens will still be sandy. Colin and has team have been cutting them this weekend so they may be slightly faster. I think in a few weeks they will be back to their best. What was noticeable was the number of unfilled divots on the course. As the Saturday field was the first group back on the course, it could have only been the Saturday players creating them. Please remember to take a sand bucket and replace and fill your divot if you create one! With the removal of the gum trees between holes 7 and 12 it does require players to exhibit a little bit of caution when teeing off down 7 and 12. The gum trees did catch a number of stray balls, and with them gone there is a need to be aware of where your ball is heading when teeing off. Please call “fore” if you hit one astray down the opposing fairway. This weekend is a Par round for the men. It counts as a shootout round and there are only 3 more rounds for the men entered in the shootout to make Shootout Sunday on the 22 of November. The Ladies shootout closes this weekend, and their Shootout Sunday is the 1st of November. The Ladies have a stroke round for those not in finals of the match play. The weather looks warm and fine for the weekend for golf. Results: Holey Greens Stableford | Men Div. I (+5-15.5) | Div. II (15.6-36) | Ladies | 1st | Doug Claridge 43 | Nick Barraclough 43 | Helen Beswick 46 | 2nd | Steve Thomas 43 | Terry Smith 41 | Anne Ott 41 | 3rd | Don Robertson 43 | Hunter Liu 41 | Julie Monk 39 | Enjoy your long weekend! |

Blank Cup Report – from Neville Bamford
With no chance of making the top 4 finals day it was all about pride last Sunday at Weedons as the Blank team took on last-placed Pegasus. A 5 ½ to 2 ½ win saw the team finish 7th on games won but just one win away from 4th spot and qualifying if other results had gone our way earlier. Comfortable wins to Troy Clark 5&4, Ryan Barham 4&3, Rhian Hamilton 5&4, Matt O’Carroll 7&5 and Neville Bamford 7&6, plus a half on debut to Kerry Lake took the points on the day. Thanks to all the members who gave up their time this year to represent the Club. Special mention goes to Troy who had 8 wins from 9 outings and big thanks also to Phil Barlow who player/managed the team all season. Players who are keen on playing senior Interclub next year please let me know as we have already set a goal of winning one of the Woodward, Blank or Simon Cups next season! |

New Staff Member
The name will be familiar to many of you as we welcome member Ramon Coleman on to the course staff team following the departure of Jared Green. Ray’s lack of social media is already making him very popular with Colin and Chris, not to mention he knows every inch of the course (particularly the rough bits). We are still committed to finding an apprentice to bring our staffing to 4 again, and get the average age down a bit as well :) |

Saturday Raffle Proceeds
For those who are not aware, club members who are players (or are simply in attendance) on a Saturday afternoon, participate in regular raffle draws, for meat trays and /or chicken prizes. The proceeds of these are directed towards enhancements of the course. For this year, the proceeds of slightly over $2,000 have contributed to the cost of the tree removal, earthworks, stump removal, and replacement maple trees between the numbers 7 & 12 fairways. It was felt that this was a very appropriate course enhancement project, which will be very attractive as the plantings mature in the next few years. On October 10th, the proceeds from the raffles for that day ($150) were donated to the two cancer charities being supported by members on that day. Sincere thanks to all who have participated in the past 12 months. John Gold, Graeme Clarke & Don Robertson |

Centre Circle Golf Day – Friday November 27th
We are pleased to again be hosting the annual fundraising tournament for the Centre Circle Trust, a Trust originally established by the late All White legend Steve Sumner to raise funds in support of football in Canterbury, particularly Juniors. During the COVID lockdown period the Trustees gifted an amazing $1,500 to each and every Club in the Canterbury region, a total of $27,000 which Clubs used to support parents who may otherwise have struggled to pay their kids subs. As a board member of Cashmere Technical FC, I see first-hand the great work these guys do for Football so open the attached promotional flyer and enter a team if you can. Many thanks - Neville Bamford |
