Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

It looks like a little a bit of rain might fall on Friday; the province and the course certainly need it! Last Saturday saw the first Saturday this year where the weather affected golf. There were a number of players who had booked and did not turn up without cancelling their booking. It is a simple thing to do; use the internet to cancel your booking , or pick up the phone and call the Pro Shop to pull out of your round. By not doing anything and not turning up, you let down the other players in your group and have an effect on the tee timings. Players who you have booked to play with will wait for you and this can cause a concertina effect down the tee sheet – delaying tee off timings. This happened in my group last week, one player didn’t turn up and was waited for. With the pressure on tee times presently (tee slots are near capacity this Saturday with only 9 tee slots available between 7.30am and 12.30pm! Please be considerate in calling to cancel if you are not going to play due to the weather. With winter and the 2 tee starts reducing the number of available tee slots could be an issue with players not being able to book into times and a wait list being created.

It wasn’t Harewood’s day last Sunday. Both the Metro A and B teams lost to Russley in their respective Canterbury Golf Metro semi-finals. The Metro A lost 3 ½ to 4 ½ with the match going down to the 18th in the last pairing at Christchurch Golf Club. The Metro B team went down 5 and 3 at Templeton Golf Club. The respective team captains Terry Coleman (Metro A) and Steve Thomas (Metro B) need to be thanked for their efforts this season, as do all players who have competed for these respective teams. I know the annual Metro A Vs Metro B match is coming up for the bragging rights will be tightly contested.

The Harewood 4BBB competition has reached the 3rd round for the men and 2nd round for the ladies. These matches will be tightly contested as this competition is now reaching the quarter final stage. This week is a multiple stableford for both men and ladies for those not in the 4BBB matches.

The match committee met this week, of key importance of discussion is the format of the 2 tee starts we have in winter and how to manage the large numbers of players that are playing on Saturdays presently into the reduced number of tee times available. This winter there will be a winter stableford competition played on a Sunday with a similar format of the Summer cup. There will be a sign-up board for competitions that are played through the winter (BCHP). Club Championship qualifying will be held at the end of the winter 2 tee starts. More details in respect to this will be posted closer to the time.
