Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

There was some robust discussion in the club rooms last Saturday at the end of the round, with the general theme being speed of play. The issues were that there are some groups who appear to be losing ground on the group in front of them, and consequently causing a delay to the groups behind them causing a high level of frustration. Sometimes balls go wayward off the tee and create a delay. There are some solutions to alleviate the frustrations of the groups behind. The concept of “Ready Golf” has been promoted over the last few years to help with this issue. The change in the rules of golf in allowing 3 minutes only to search for a lost ball is one rule solution.

The ready golf concept/rule means that all golfers should go to their balls as soon as possible and get READY to play their shots. While waiting to hit, PLAYERS should SURVEY their shot, SELECT their clubs, TAKE them from their bags, and STAND at their ball READY to step up and make the shot when it is their turn. If you do lose ground from the group in front of you there are some other ways to help you make up ground. If playing in a 4, once 2 players have putted out, have them head over to the tee and tee off irrespective of the state of the match and who has the honour. If the match of the day is a Stableford, you are entitled to pick up if you cannot score any points. This is marked down as zero stableford points and a pick-up in the scoring column on the scorecard. If it is a stroke round you are required to complete the hole.

It is semi-final time in the Harewood 4BBB competition. There has been plenty of banter in the club rooms in respect to the “easy beats” shirts and which one they will be wearing on the completion of their match. The semi-finalists are:

Ben Williams & Richard Bradley Vs Matt O’Carroll & Ben McCarroll

Troy Clark & Phil Barlow Vs Les Keys & Allan Double (the easy beats)

Last weekend’s monthly medal produced some great scores, and it looks like the weather will be fine and dry for the weekend. The best round of the day was Scott Manyweathers who had 64 off the stick which included 8 birdies – 4 on each side of the card!

New Paths on Course

You will have noticed we have been doing some work on the course paths in the past month or two with Amuri Chip being laid on holes 2, 4 & 7.

The course staff have done a great job on the latest and largest section to date with the path coming off the 2nd tee. The next stage of these new paths is to soil and re-seed the bare areas up to the path borders.

Can players please use these paths and stay within the roped-off areas. Please do not step over the ropes if carrying.

The Course Committee have planned for a number of improvements like this in the next 12 months or so, including new or extending existing asphalt paths.

New Staff Member – Pro Shop

I’m pleased to advise that member Annabel Chadwick is joining the pro shop team on a casual basis to help cover peak times and periods of leave and/or illness.

The training wheels go on tomorrow morning so make sure you say hi to the newest member of our great pro shop team.

Volunteer Working Bee

Thanks to the 16 Men and Women who did a great couple of hours work on Wednesday.

A good garden tidy-up and the course minus all the pinecones looked great today.

Many thanks.
