Wintery weather arrived mid-week this week; what rain that fell has softened the fairways and the green surrounds and our greens continue to run fast and true. The course certainly needed the rain, but also more rain is needed. The new pathways that have been laid look great, and are great addition to the course, please respect the roped off areas to allow the ground to recover surrounding the pathways.
The winter season is almost upon us, in 2 weeks June is here and the first Saturday of the 2-tee start is the 5th of June. This year on a Sunday through the winter the club is running a Sunday stableford competition. This competition is open to all members. There will be dedicated tee slots for members to book into on a Sunday, and the competition will be available for members who want to play outside the dedicated slots. The Sunday competition has been set up in order to allow members to play a competition round other than a Saturday. With the numbers playing on Saturday at present, (140+ players) it will be a tight squeeze to fit all players in when the 2-tee starts.
This weekend is the Qualifier round of the men’s BCHP competition, this is a knockout match play on handicap. The first round is scheduled in the programme for Saturday 19th of June. The grades (Blank, Harewood, Captains and Presidents) will be decided following the qualifying round as all grades are playing off the white tees. There is also a stroke round for all. Players are able to enter both competitions this weekend if they wish as qualifying is on Nett. Ladies this weekend have a Harewood 4BBB Semi Final, Nancy McCormack 4somes Rd 2 (18 Holes), and Stroke for the others.
Congratulations to the Harewood ladies 18-hole Silver interclub team which won the final of the Canterbury golf Women’s 18-hole Interclub competition on Monday. Congratulations to Debbie Scott, Lyn Brand, Carolyn Rickard, Julie Jones, Sue Polson, Helen Burne, Liz Warren and Di Chaney who beat Clearwater 4 and 2 at Weedons Golf Club on Monday. The Harewood 2 Women’s Weekend interclub team have made the Semi-final in the Canterbury Golf Women’s Weekend interclub competition. Their semi-final is played this Sunday at Bottle Lake.
The finalists for the Harewood 4 BBB competition were decided last weekend. The Easy Beats (Les Keys and Alan Double) showed they weren’t easy to beat; with their match against Troy Clark and Phil Barlow being decided after 22 holes by sudden death. The other semi-final match was a little more conclusive with Matt O’Carroll and Ben McCarroll defeating Richard Bradley and Ben Williams 6 and 5. The final for both the Men and Ladies Harewood 4BBB is next weekend. The men’s match should be a tight affair with very few shots given and all 4 players in single figures.
