Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

Winter is nearing, the days are shorter and the nights are cooler. We have had a couple of frosts in the morning over the last couple of weeks. With frosts come the need to protect the grass from being played on when frozen. At this time of year, the grass is dormant and does not recover from being played on when frozen. It is for this reason that the 2-tee start begins in early June. Continuing with playing from the no 1 tee during the winter months risks players not being able to play due to the course closed for frost until 9.30am. Even at this time of year we run the risk of play being suspended (i.e. course closed) until the frost is lifting. This year tee times are going to be under pressure, this weekend we have a full field from 8am to 1pm (160 players).

For those still wanting to play a competition round over the weekend there is a Sunday stableford competition that will run over the 11 weeks of the 2 tee starts. This is open to all members. There are going to be some protected tees slots available for members to book into, and this competition will be open to entry outside these tee times. This is an effort to try and reduce the pressure on the Saturday tee times. For those of us who work the weekend is the only time we are able to get out and play golf. If you are regularly playing golf during the week, please consider those who are not able to get out and play during the week.

It’s finals time for the Harewood 4BBB event. Best of luck to the finalists:

Men: Phil Barlow & Troy Clark Vs Matt O’Carroll & Ben McCarroll

Women: Hyeza Kim & Kerrie Cady Vs Lynley Gainsford & Lynn Brand

With the full field please be considerate to the players behind these matches as they are finals.

Next week is the Yellow Tees. There is a choice of either Bisque Par or All Irons. A hybrid club is not classed as an iron so you might have to dig around in the bag of the garage to find a low iron if you are wanting to play the all-irons match. The first weekend of 2 tee start then commences on the 5th of June with a monthly medal for the men and a hidden hole’s stableford for the women. Players who entered the BCHP last weekend the draw has been made and will be posted in the Proshop. The first-round tee times will be booked and players will be advised via email from Dotgolf. Please remember matches need to be played on or before the next round.

The Harewood 2 Women’s Weekend Interclub team won their semi-final last weekend and now play in the final on Sunday at Russley Golf club against Weedons. Good luck ladies!
