The forecast for Saturday has been changing all week. It looks as though we may be able to play without getting too wet, with a few showers forecast. It is Yellow tees this weekend. Either all irons (a hybrid is not an iron) or Bisque Par. The rest of the weekend and early next week looks wet. Please, if you decide not to play advise the Proshop or cancel your booking online. This will be important over the next 12 weeks of 2 tee starts with the pressures on the tee bookings on Saturday.
Two tee starts begin next weekend, and those who book normally on a Friday will have already made their booking before this comes out. With 2 tee starts there is a reduction of the total number of tees available on a Saturday. With the growth in membership over the last 18 months (from just under 500 to 645) there has been an increased pressure on playing times on Saturday. The two-tee start is the best solution for fairness in respect to allowing the greatest number of players to get a game on Saturday if there is a frost. We have a course and greens that we should be proud of; keeping off the frozen greens protects them from damage. There will be 3 tee slots open on each side (1and 10) from 8am that can be booked into with the proviso of:
1. being through the turn by 10.00am
2. these slots will be closed / unavailable in the event of frost closing the course.
The Sunday competition will begin on the 6th of June. This is a Stableford competition available for members that will run over the 2 tees start period of winter. Prizes will be paid out as Proshop vouchers each Sunday, and there will be a cumulative best 5 rounds of 13 Stableford competition for those who regularly play the Sunday competition.
The Mid-winter Mixed shotgun is on the 13th of June that bookings can be made via the Proshop.
Congratulations to the Harewood 4BBB winners;
Men: Phil Barlow & Troy Clark defeated Matt O’Carroll & Ben McCarroll 1up – a very tight match
Women: Lynley Gainsford & Lynn Brand defeated Hyeza Kim & Kerrie Cady 2&1 - also a tight match
Well done to the Women’s Weekend Interclub winners! (Report below from Lesley Hedges Saturday ladies captain).
“In an exciting, cliff hanger of a final, Harewood 2 won the Women’s Weekend Interclub against Weedons at Russley last Sunday. After a frost delayed start, but in otherwise perfect conditions, Harewood had to dig deep, finally winning in a sudden death play-off. Whilst Lesley Hedges had an early loss to 14-year-old Deanna Matthews who had a par round, the other three players battled till the 18th, with Lynn Brand and Catherine Butts having wins and Denise Guerin, a loss. In the subsequent play off, Harewood’s nominated player, Lynn, played Deanna, maintaining her focus and composure to par (and almost birdie) the Number 1 hole after Deanna had putted long and missed the return putt.
This win makes it a double for Harewood Women, after the Mid-Week women’s success in the Silver 18 Hole Interclub competition a fortnight ago. Many thanks to the caddies and Harewood members who came out to support the team. Such support is a real boost to players and one of the many things that make Harewood a great club."
