Dear Guest, Friday, 11 June, 2021

Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

It’s a full field for the shotgun this weekend. Tee off is 11.30am, entry is $15.00 which includes twos, net eagles, nearest the pin and straightest drive. With a full field (120+ players) the pace of play may be a little slower than we are used to so please be patient. It is a stableford competition for both men and ladies’ grades. The registration desk in the Proshop will be open from 10.00ish. The forecast for the weekend is fine with a light NE and no frosts for Saturday or Sunday.

We have moved from being bone dry to being wet and heavy on the fairways in a relatively short time. It is noticeable the number of unfilled divots that are appearing in the fairways especially in the landing zones on some holes. Please remember to take a sand bucket and use it. If you see an unfilled divot left by another player, please fill it. We have a few more months of winter conditions and looking after our course at this time of year in respect to divots on the fairways will help to keep them in a reasonable condition. The greens are soft and the pitch marks are noticeable – please repair yours and others on the greens.

Next is the first round of the men’s BCHP competition. This is match play off handicap where the lowest handicapper goes back to scratch. The second round of the BCHP is the 26/06/2021.The draw is up in the Pro-shop, and players involved in these matches have had a tee booking made for them. There are some interesting match ups and with shots given could be some interesting matches.

Best of luck our club champions, Matt McLean (Senior), Terry Coleman (Intermediate) and Gary Gillespie (Junior A) who compete in the Canterbury Golf Champion of Champions Tournament at Christchurch Golf Club on Sunday.

Please remember the donate a Hebe (or money for) for the garden in front of the entry to the 10th tee.

Course Beautification – Donate a Hebe Month
from Debbie Scott

In line with our work in making improvements to the gardens and the pathways, we would like to make the area in front of the toilet block (next to the practice green) our next project. It would be great to have input from the members and so we have decided to make the month of June…. Donate a Hebe month. Simply buy/donate a hebe (approx. $15) and leave it next to the pro shop. Colin will collect and look after them until the end of the month when a working bee will plant them all out in the area near the sand bucket stand & bin, as you walk off 18 green. This area is currently just a sand hill, scruffy in appearance and not an attractive entrance way to No 10 tee… it needs our attention!

New soil will be needed and the current old growth removed, you may have noticed this work has begun. Please donate a Hebe, of any description, leave it beside the Pro shop and a group of volunteers will take care of the rest.

We thank you in anticipation of another positive project by keen Harewood members ??

Thank you!

Debbie Scott - Chair Course Committee
