Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

It was good to see a full clubhouse after last Saturday’s Shotgun start. With the daylight hours available to us at this time of year we are limited to one shotgun start. The wet winter weather looks as though it is going to continue over this weekend. The forecast for Saturday is cloudy with patchy drizzle, and not a lot of sun. The wet weather will continue to compound our soggy fairways and the areas of low grass. Please be careful if you are in a cart where your drive, and where you walk to help protect the fairway areas. (NB cart use is suspended until further notice – Neville).

I played on Wednesday and watched as a group of golfers played up the seventh. No divots were repaired nor were the players carrying sand buckets to repair them. When asked this group of players (who were members) replied “Oh, I probably should have one”; there is unfortunately no probably about it - you should be carrying a sand bucket and be able to repair your divots. There is obvious signage in the Proshop and on the pathway to the first and tenth tees advising players to carry a sand bucket.

This weekend is the first knockout round of the BCHP for the men; the winners of these matches will advance into the second-round next weekend. I expect there will be some adjustment of the tee booking sheets on the following Saturdays. Ladies have a LGU round. If you decide not to play, please advise the pro shop or cancel your booking online. If you are deciding not to play your BCHP match it is a default and your opposition advances to the next round.

Course Beautification – Donate a Hebe Month

In line with our work in making improvements to the gardens and the pathways, we would like to make the area in front of the toilet block (next to the practice green) our next project. It would be great to have input from the members and so we have decided to make the month of June…. Donate a Hebe month. Simply buy/donate a hebe (approx. $15) and leave it next to the pro shop. Colin will collect and look after them until the end of the month when a working bee will plant them all out in the area near the sand bucket stand & bin, as you walk off 18 green. This area is currently just a sand hill, scruffy in appearance and not an attractive entrance way to No 10 tee… it needs our attention!

New soil will be needed and the current old growth removed, you may have noticed this work has begun. Please donate a Hebe, of any description, leave it beside the Pro shop and a group of volunteers will take care of the rest.

We thank you in anticipation of another positive project by keen Harewood members ??

Thank you!

Debbie Scott - Chair Course Committee
