Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge
Winter is here and the heavy ground conditions have instigated a change in playing conditions. There is now 1m placing through the green. This placing rule includes all general areas of the course (but not the teeing ground or the green) and includes the rough. Players must replace their ball in the same ground condition as where it landed. This means if you land in the rough, you must place the ball in the rough in similar ground conditions. The winter conditions have not slowed our greens if playing on Wednesday is anything to judge them by. The greens continue to roll fast and true. They are also soft and very receptive to a high ball which leaves a pitch mark. Please help to maintain the quality of greens by repairing your own pitch marks, and any others. Please be mindful of pitch marks at the front edges of the green if you hit a low skipping shot onto the green! Carts are allowed back on the course as there has been drying with the sun at the end of this week; please be careful in driving them on the some of the bare slopes and wet areas to protect them if possible. The second-round matches of the men’s BCHP match play on handicap are played this weekend, and a par round for all other players on Saturday. The next round is scheduled for the 10th of July after the Monthly Medal off the Yellow tees on the 3rd of July. Ladies this weekend have a LGU round. Congratulations to Pedro Jung who had a hole in 1 on No.13 last Saturday. By all account’s it was a well struck shot then bounced twice and dropped in the hole. The annual Metro A vs Metro B match for the cup and bragging rights is being played on Sunday. The depth of the two Metro sides is shown by the number of players, being 16 on each side – it is going to be a tightly fought contest of match play on handicaps for the Cup. Results: Saturday 19/06 Stableford | Div. I (+5-13.0) | Div. II (13.1-36) | Ladies -Stableford | 1st | Patrick Gou 40 | Phil Badger 39 | Lynn Brand 35 | 2nd | Michael Aitken 36 | Wayne Coleman 38 | Stephanie Withell 33 | 3rd | Peter Batchelor 36 | Jock McKay 36 | Lorraine Bamford 32 | Best of luck for golf this weekend - the weather looks good for golf. |

Harewood GC Rules & Etiquette
There have been some issues raised of late due to our recent membership growth, particularly in the age-group categories. Members are reminded that certain rules and standards that must be adhered to by members and their guests. Some of the recent issues brought to my attention are; · - Club-sharing. Players must have one set of clubs each and not share between 2 or 3 players as has been witnessed recently. · - Dress standards. Players must be dressed appropriately. This means golf shoes or trainers, collared shirts and appropriate shorts/pants. What is deemed appropriate can be subjective of course but generally track pants are not considered appropriate, especially if ripped, paint-stained etc etc. The pro shop will remind players of these requirements if they consider they do not meet these minimum standards. · - Course Etiquette. If you are holding up a group behind and have lost ground on the group in front (if there is one) please call the group behind through. Not doing so causes great frustration and can potentially lead to hitting up and the risk of injury. Many thanks for your cooperation. Neville – General Manager |

Course Beautification – Donate a Hebe Month
In line with our work in making improvements to the gardens and the pathways, we would like to make the area in front of the toilet block (next to the practice green) our next project. It would be great to have input from the members and so we have decided to make the month of June…. Donate a Hebe month. Simply buy/donate a hebe (approx. $15) and leave it next to the pro shop. Colin will collect and look after them until the end of the month when a working bee will plant them all out in the area near the sand bucket stand & bin, as you walk off 18 green. This area is currently just a sand hill, scruffy in appearance and not an attractive entrance way to No 10 tee… it needs our attention! New soil will be needed and the current old growth removed, you may have noticed this work has begun. Please donate a Hebe, of any description, leave it beside the Pro shop and a group of volunteers will take care of the rest. We thank you in anticipation of another positive project by keen Harewood members ?? Thank you! Debbie Scott - Chair Course Committee |
