Re: General Manager Resignation

On behalf of the HGC Board I wish to advise that with genuine regret I have accepted Neville’s resignation from his role as General Manager. His last day of work will be on or before June 1st, 2022.

The Board is commencing the recruitment process immediately to replace Neville.  It is important that we find the right candidate to continue the development of the club and this may mean that we appoint an interim Manager as part of the process.  We will keep members regularly updated as to progress with this.

In terms of what’s next for Neville, below is an extract from his resignation letter that he is happy for us to share.

I have not taken this decision lightly as my time here has been an amazing journey with a fantastic group of people. In my 6 years+ as GM we have had a passionate and dedicated team that have taken the Club out of a long period of losses to a more profitable and sustainable future, and that will always be one of my proudest achievements and a career highlight.

I have had cause recently to consider my future career aspirations with offers of roles at Clubs in the North Island, but for a variety of reasons, we did not want to leave Christchurch. Some years ago, I rejected any thought of moving to another Christchurch club as this just didn’t sit well with me given the “blood, sweat and tears” we have all shed in my time here.

Quite unsolicited, I have been offered an amazing opportunity to join Lamb & Hayward in a newly created senior role as Group Operations Director. Whilst the irony of joining the same industry as my predecessor will not be lost on many, I felt it was the right move for me and my family at the tender age of 58 (nearly) to embark on a new challenge that I hope sees me through to retirement.

I want to thank the Board and all the staff, members, and volunteers for their incredible support during my tenure and I hope to retain my connection with the Club as an “ordinary” member.”

Whilst we are all very sorry to lose someone of Neville’s calibre, we as a Club are in a very healthy and vibrant state and we believe the role will attract interest from a number of well-qualified candidates.
