Member News – 28 April 2022

The WW is a day early this week as I am on leave for a few days – Neville

Weekly Update – from Club Captain Phil Barlow

Though we have winter conditions heading our way, we were treated to yet another great club day on Saturday. The field was a little smaller with another long weekend, but those who played were treated to what we are coming used to being a course in great condition. Graeme Clarke in particular made the course look easy with his 43pts in Div 2 men.

The men had their last blue tee stableford competition for the season with the women playing a Nancy McCormick 4somes 18 holes (Rnd 2) and the others combined stableford.

Results for the day are:

Men Div. 1 stableford

Men Div. 2 stableford

1st

Jack Thorp                        39pts

Graeme Clarke                    43pts

2nd

Malcolm Cameron          38pts

Ji Huang                                40pts

3rd

Phil Barlow                       38pts

Harvey Teulon                     40pts

Ladies (combined stableford)

1st

Jill O’Neill and Catherine Butts

2nd

Joy Lord and Valerie Wood

3rd

Denise Guerin and Yu Lan Liu

Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell’s

Think like a Tour Pro

Don’t be tempted to aim at a pin in the corner or back of the green. If the pin is on the left-hand side near the edge of #3, aim 5 metres to the right of that because it’s much easier to 2 putt from there than get up and down from the short side.

Be smart mentally and watch your scores come down.

Rule of the week (Playing a provisional ball – Rule 18.3a)

A revised version of the above rule is:

If a ball might be lost outside a penalty area or be out of bounds, to save time the player may play another ball provisionally under penalty of stroke and distance (see Rule 14.6). The player may continue to play the provisional ball without it losing its status as a provisional ball so long as it is played from a spot that is the same distance or farther from the hole than where the original ball is estimated to be.

Something we encourage our members to do is, if there is any doubt at all about a ball being out of bounds or in a hazard, please play a provisional to speed up play. It is far easier to pick up a ball that is not needed rather than having to walk back to the tee after looking for the original ball.

Last but not least

We had a special presentation on Saturday after the prizegiving to Allan Double. One of our members sketched a great likeness of Allan with his sons Brad and Scott, framed and wrapped it. It would be fair to say he was quite surprised, but equally pleased.

Enjoy your golf.

Driving Range - Re-opening of grass tee area

The grass driving range area will be open again from this Saturday 30th.
