The weather put a few golfers off playing on Saturday, but the rain cleared by early afternoon and a good day’s golf was had. The weather didn’t stop some high Stableford scores, however.

A big thank you to those who supported the Eagles Golf raffle for Junior Golf. Gary Charmley and Mike Stanley had their 42 books of tickets sold by mid-morning!

Saturday Women from Catherine Butts - There was just a small field on Saturday and the team that won the Coloured Ball Stableford were Diane Deuart, Jill O Neill and Catherine Butts with a score of 70. This was the first time we had played this competition and we found it enjoyable.

Along with the Harewood 4BBB finals this weekend, the women and men will all be playing a 4BBB round.

Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell

Club yourself for winter conditions and save three shots a round.

It’s a hard thing to do during winter conditions but you must adjust for the wet ground, heavy air and normally a strong easterly.

So having said that, you might have to hit two or three more clubs more than in summer.

Rule of the week (Embedded ball relief – Rule 16.3a)

Relief is allowed only when your ball is embedded in the general area. But if your ball is embedded on the putting green, you may mark the spot of your ball, lift and clean it, repair the damage, and replace your ball on its original spot.

Exceptions - When Relief Not Allowed for Ball Embedded in General Area:

  • When your ball is embedded in sand in a part of the general area that is not cut to fairway height or less, or
  • When interference by anything other than your ball being embedded makes your stroke clearly unreasonable (for example, when you are unable to make a stroke because of where your ball lies in a bush).

Your ball is embedded only if it is in its own pitch-mark made as a result of your previous stroke and part of your ball is below the level of the ground.

Refer to the website for more complete information on this rule.

Upcoming Saturday golf (for full details refer to the 2022 programme).

21 May – Harewood 4BBB Final – Men and women. All others 4BBB.

28 May – Men: All irons Stableford or Bisque par (yellow tees). Women: FMS Stableford Rnd 4.

4 June – Queen’s Birthday Shotgun Stableford – 11:30 tee off.

11 June – Men: Monthly Medal, all white tees. Women: LGU Rnd 5, Putting, Harewood Cup Rnd 3, Qual Williamson & Thompson trophies. Note that winter tee times start this weekend.

Enjoy your golf.

Eagles Raffle – Thank You!

Once again Harewood members have excelled in buying all 420 tickets allocated to us to raise funds for Junior Golf. The $840 raised makes Harewood one of the most generous golf clubs throughout NZ. Many people didn’t take the 2 golf balls after purchasing a book of tickets, so Mike and I have given these balls to the Pro Shop to hand out to our junior golfers. Thank you everyone for your support.
