Mid-Week Men
Not working during the week? Then come and join the Mid-week Men. It's a great way to keep your passion for golf going, to keep in contact with old friends, and to make new ones.

The group, which is largely made up of retired and semi-retired golfers, plays on Mondays and Thursdays. Starting times are 9.00am in Summer and 10.00am in Winter. Starting partners are drawn a few minutes beforehand.

Competitions are run in three grades. There are usually 12 golf prizes awarded, as well as Lucky Cards and eight raffle draws, in the Clubhouse immediately after matches. There are nine major tournaments, plus the Mid-Year, Lamb and Hayward and Christmas Hamper tournaments.

If 18 holes at a time is too much, perhaps the 9 hole group is more to your liking? Playing on Mondays and Wednesdays. You can play the first 9 of the course on one day, and the second 9 on another.

Saturday Men
Working during the week? Keen to play some competitive golf in a friendly atmosphere? Joining the Saturday Men is for you.

All full playing members are welcomed, and any Juniors with playing rights. Please apply to Club Captain Phil Barlow for these rights.

To play, simply book a tee-time with the Pro Shop. Each Saturday means a new competition or continuation of an existing one. As well as getting the chance to make some new friends, there are some excellent prizes presented for the day's results in the clubhouse after the round.

There is a nominal fee to help finance the prizes. In addition to the competition prizes, there are some superb raffle prizes to be won, kindly donated by sponsor Peter Timbs Meats. To cap it off, Sponsors directly support some competitions meaning even better prizes. It's fair to say that it'll be worth your while to join!

If you're new to the club and keen to play with this group, please contact the pro shop - (03) 359 8853.

If you're keen to represent the club in any of the Interclub competitions, please contact the General Manager.

Mid-Week Women
Ladies, are you keen to make some new friends and play during the week? Then come along and join the Mid-Week Women's group. They play on Tuesdays and Thursdays, every week of the year. Don't worry if you're new to golf - players of all abilities are more than welcome. Nearly every day it's a new competition and prizes are awarded each week in the Clubhouse.

In an effort to help facilitate socialising, each playing group is drawn randomly. This means that all you have to do to play is turn up 15 minutes before the tee-time (and bring your clubs!). If you're turning up for the first time, let one of the committee know (see below) so that they can help you settle in.

During winter, groups tee-off at 10am. In summer it's 9am. If in doubt, please contact the pro shop.

As well as the normal competitions, the Mid-week Women run three tournaments, open to all women, whether they're members of Harewood or not. They are:

  • 9-hole Women's tournament
  • 18-hole Harewood Women's 4BBB
  • 18-hole Harewood Women's Team Stableford

9 Hole Ladies
If you're not quite ready for 18 holes, you simply can't fit it into your schedule, or playing 18 holes is too much, come and join the 9 Hole Ladies. It's a great way to keep your passion for the game going, make some friends and, if you're a beginner, learn about golf in a pressure-free environment. This is a great way to get started in golf!

You can play 9 holes on any day. Wednesday is Club day, when competitions are played, which vary from traditional stroke play to all irons.

Lisa Neho-Smith - the 9 Hole Ladies Convener, and would love to hear from you. She can be contacted by phone on 021 155 1866

Saturday Women
Unable to play during the week due to work or study? Not a problem. Come along and play with the Saturday Women.

You even have a choice of morning (9am) or afternoon (12.00pm) tee-times. There are prizes to compete for each week and the atmosphere is sociable and relaxed. If you're a member (or thinking of joining), and can't play in the mid-week section, then you're welcome to join us. For more information, please contact Jill O'Neill, Saturday Women's Convener.

If you're new to the Club or golf, don't be nervous about joining. Simply call Jill and she'll provide you with any other information and answer any other questions you might have about joining Harewood Saturday Women.

Within the Saturday Womens' ranks, the players range in ability from Pollock Cup level to the highest handicaps. The playing groups for the day are randomly drawn so there's a fair chance you'll end up with players of your own ability plus one or two to inspire you to greater heights. LGU and other club competitions are played for on a monthly basis where you are assured to be playing with people around your handicap.

As well as there being diversity in ability, there is also a wide range in terms of members' ages. It's a perfect opportunity for socialising, as well as playing golf.

If you're keen to play more competitive golf, please let Lesley or one of her fellow committee members know you're available for selection for the weekend Interclub teams.
