Dear Guest, Friday, 02 October, 2020

Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

The club champions were decided last weekend in some tightly fought matches.

Congratulations to all the finalists and commiserations to the losing finalists. There was plenty of interest in the matches in all grades and a good turnout for the presentations at the end of the day prizegiving. Although COVID 19 interrupted the initial men’s qualifying rounds this year and with the increase of membership placing some pressure on tee bookings requiring an adjustment to the qualifying rounds, the format for the club champs worked well this year. With some minor tweaks the format will be similar for the 2021 Club Champs.

The match committee met this week and in view of the good condition of the fairways have elected to remove placing for the course from Saturday. There is now No Placing on closely mown fairways.

Next weekend is a Shotgun start at 8:00am or 12.45pm. It is a Cancer Charities fund raiser for either Breast cancer or Prostate cancer, so please wear pink or blue to support one of the charities or donate in the Proshop. Entries are being taken through the Proshop as Dot Golf is not able to handle online entries into two start times. Members will have received an email in respect to this earlier in the week. Entry will be $15.00, and this will include 2’s, net eagles, closest to the pin and straightest drive for the morning and afternoon fields.

The course is closed on Sunday 11/10 for the Men’s Woodward Cup rounds 8 &9, and then closed for the weekdays as coring is being performed. The course is open on Saturday 17/10 for a holey greens stableford.

Blank Cup Report - from Phil Barlow

Sunday 27th promised to be a windy day at Pegasus for the Blank team. And it would be fair to say that was an understatement.

It blew hard, though no rain, and the Harewood boys went to the range and played a few holes before teeing off to see just how tough the wind would be at such an exposed course. It was a hard-fought match with all sorts of shots being played just to try and keep the ball in play. With a 3-iron going anywhere from 160-300 metres some careful planning was important before tackling a hole.

The good news is that we came out the victors 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 with one of the losses down to the last hole. More good news is that we are 4th equal on points, but 1 game point behind Coringa, so currently just pipped for the top 4.

The matchups this coming weekend promise to move the order around some more so a win against Templeton at Avondale is a must for us to stay in touch.

Make Time Play 9 – Road to The Open returns!

New Zealand Golf is excited to announce the return of Make Time Play 9 – Road to The Open.

Everyone is busy, but it’s about encouraging all golfers to get outside and make time in their day to do things that are meaningful to them, to be active, to play with their friends and family, to take on a new personal challenge, and to have fun – and what better way to do that through the game we love!

From 1 October 2020, club members who hand in a 9-hole scorecard will be in the chance to win a trip to Queenstown in 2021 to play in a special 9-hole event with eight other golfers. We will announce randomly drawn winners at the end of each month with the last player to be announced in March 2021.

The nine finalists will have a unique opportunity to play at Millbrook Resort. The two winners from the Make Time Play 9 final event will win a once in a lifetime trip to play in The R&A 9-Hole Challenge on the eve of The 149th Open Championship at Royal St George’s Golf Club in 2021. The event will include 42 other club golfers from across the world and each person will receive return airfares, accommodation and season passes to the 149th Open Championship.*

The fun doesn’t stop there as every month, there will be opportunities for golfers to be randomly drawn to win a variety of giveaways such as weekend getaways, and LOVE Golf apparel.

This year, we have a range of prizes for randomly selected young people who have been out for 9 -holes which makes this summer the perfect opportunity to invite your child, nephew, niece or grandchild out on course too!

Why wouldn’t you Make Time for 9?

*Travel and border restrictions will determine participation in the R&A 9 Hole Challenge and attendance of the 149th Open Championship.
