Club Captain Update – from Doug Claridge

High pressure sitting over the country means fine weather for the weekend. A contrast to last Saturday where the weather dictated players decisions about playing golf. However, the course did remain open and consequently the Men’s first round of the club champs was played in persistent rain, and the Ladies club champs first round qualifying was cancelled due to the weather. This weekend the fine weather looks good for the qualifying round of the Ladies’ club champs and Men a par round and for those in the shootout to post another score. Players entered in the shootout would have received an email this week in respect to a proposed date change from the 10/11/2019 to the 27/11/2019 due to interclub rounds scheduled for Woodward/ Blank and Metro A/B. Please, if you have not replied to this do so, or talk to me at the club this weekend.

The weather had fined up on Sunday for the Woodward Cup, Blank and President’s grade to play. Unfortunately, the Woodward cup team’s winning start came to an end going down to Russley (the defending champions) at home 7 - 1. The Woodward Cup team continue to lie second on the table.
The Blank team knew it was going to be a hard task against the current leaders Avondale at Christchurch's Shirley GC on Sunday. Most of the way through the match it was even with many games switching between up and down over the day. With 4 matches going to the 18th hole, it was a hard fought but unlucky loss 4 ½ - 3 ½ in the end. A great day and solid battle by the team. The Ladies Pollock Cup team had a convincing win against Weedons 4 ½ to 1 ½. The Presidents team ‘Dad’s Army ‘had a convincing win against Christchurch at Harewood 7 ½ to ½. The Metro A/B competition kicks off this weekend. Metro A have a bye, and the Metro B team takes on Avondale at home on Sunday.

For those who use Dot Golf to monitor your handicap and those of your friends, the online tee booking is up and running with bookings open from the 28/09/2019. Earlier this week there was a notification email form the club in respect to this.

Best of luck this weekend if you a playing golf!

It is a huge congratulations to Carolyn Rickard for winning the New Zealand Coronation Medal– Silver Net. Carolyn played to a Net 65.

This is the second time that a Harewood Lady has won the Coronation Medal – Shelia Dunbar played 6 under par to win the medal in 1975.

We all look forward to the presentation of the medal to Carolyn at the Champion of Champions and Gross Rosebowl Stableford Day in November 2019.

Pollock Cup – from Team Manager Julie Jones

The team played at Russley against Weedons on Sunday. A damp start, but the day did improve.

We had a great win. 4 ½ – 1 ½. Matches ran close early on with Catherine, Rachel and Lynn taking control after the 1st 9 and closing out their match's 6/5 and 5/4. Pam and Anne both went on to battle to the 18th. Pam a win and Anne a half.

The team currently sits in third spot, with 1 game and a bye remaining. Next game is at Pegasus on the 29th Sept against the unbeaten Russley team. A chance to upset the leaders and give us a look at the semi’s.

Well done Ladies!

Blank Cup - from Player/Captain Phil Barlow

The Blank team new it was going to be a hard task against the current leaders Avondale at Christchurch's Shirley GC on Sunday.

Most of the way through the match it was pretty even with many games switching between up and down over the day. With 4 matches going to the 18th hole, it was a hard fought but unlucky loss 4.5 - 3.5 in the end.

A great day and solid battle by the team.

Junior Interclub 2019

Junior Interclub started last Sunday when players from 8 Clubs played in the rain with very wet conditions underfoot at Lincoln.

This is the first year for a long time that Harewood has entered a team which consisted of Ben, Findlay, Olivia and Finley. They played foursomes and halved with Weedons. Tora and Conor made up a composite team with Christchurch.

These juniors have been part of the programme which began last year, coached by Carl and helped by Robert Newton.

About 25 – 30 juniors come each Sunday afternoon.

2019/20 Membership, Reciprocal and Bag Tag Cards

These cards are now available for collection from the pro shop.

Please remember to collect these as there are a large number still uncollected from last year.
