This week we lost one of the characters of the club. Danny O’Neill will be missed by a large number of members. Danny has been involved in many facets of the club. Prior to his illness Danny was actively involved on the board, sponsorship, manager for the Woodward Cup teams and player for the Metro B team as well as competing and being competitive in the Men’s Saturday competition. I am sure we all will share memories of him. I can remember in my first year as a member playing with him and he provided a good introduction to me as a new member. Danny in recent years has made the golf club his second home and was always seen out collecting balls on the range or helping the Ladies in the kitchen. His face will be missed around the club. I am sure he would have had a good send off at his funeral on Friday.
Club Champs dominate the Men’s and Ladies programme this weekend. It is the first round of match play for the Ladies and the second round for the Men. Players not in the club champs have a Stableford round for the Men and a combined stableford for the Ladies. The weather forecast is looking good for golf this weekend.
The Metro B team had moments silence in respect to Danny prior to their first match of the season at home against Avondale. The result was a good 5/3 win. This week the Woodward Cup have a double header at Christchurch, playing Templeton in the morning and Hororata in the afternoon match. Blank are away at Weedons against Pegasus, and Dad’s Army Presidents take on Coringa at Coringa. Best of luck to all teams.
