Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge
A new golf season is upon us. The 2020 competition season opens this weekend and promises to have some new and interesting additions to the competition golf. The 2020 programme book is available at the office or pro shop for those who have not picked one up. For those who are not aware the course is closed for the Canterbury Strokeplay on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of February. The course is looking dry and has had a lot of use over the summer break but judging by the scores in the summer cup, it’s playing well. Please be aware that the smoking ban is in force and Canterbury now has a total fire ban in place due to the dry weather. This weekend the Ladies have an opening day Stableford, and the start of their year seasons competition. For the Men the Peninsula Beachfront Resort Shootout commences, which is a flat entry fee of $50 for the season, and a Par round. Next weekend is the opening day Shotgun at 12.00pm. For those who have been in club house over the summer break would have noticed the TV with results and announcement of some new competitions for all Saturday members. This is being driven by Bruce Maetzig who is leading a Board sub-committee tasked with new membership initiatives and growth. More on this from Bruce to follow. Summer Cup results: Men: Nett Tony Ralfe 67 69 69 205 Paul Alexander 67 68 71 206 Sam Hosseini 65 70 72 207 Les Keys 67 69 71 207 Ray Polson 67 70 70 207 Glyn Francis 66 70 72 208 Chris Sweeney 68 70 71 209 Peter Moore 69 69 71 209 Steve Thomas 68 70 71 209 Lindsay Crossen 68 69 73 210 Ladies: Stableford best 3 Joy Lord 41 38 36 115 Julie Monk 41 39 35 115 Jillian Palmer 40 38 35 113 Debbie Scott 40 39 33 112 Diane Deuart 38 38 36 112 Catherine Butts 38 37 37 112 |

Pioneer Race to Millbrook
As some of you may be aware, we are starting a new competition open to all members (Men & Women) playing on Saturdays, called eclectic (also known as ‘Ringer’). This competition will be a multi-round competition played on every Saturday starting 25th January, and running through to 14th November, and is open to all members playing on Saturday club day at Harewood. Each players lowest nett score on each hole over the course of multiple Saturdays is recorded, resulting in one very good 18 hole score. Lowest score wins the prize (in the event of more than 1 person being on the same score, a lucky draw will be done to find the winner as there is only 1 prize) And the prize? - We are pleased to announce that Pioneer Pools (Chris Sweeney) has agreed to sponsor this competition ,meaning we can now advise that the prize for the winner will be a Stay and Play Golf Package in a Deluxe Studio apartment at the Millbrook Resort at Arrowtown, including a $200.00 meal card. The competition will show on the dot golf screen as ‘The Pioneer Race to Millbrook’ when you get your score card before you play each Saturday, you don’t have to do anything else, you will be automatically entered, and the best bit – as a Saturday member at Harewood, entry is free! Good luck! Bruce Maetzig |

Armstrong Motor Group have come on board with a co-branded vehicle plus $1,000 each series towards prizes. Smoking/Fire Ban on Course
As Doug mentioned, there is a total fire ban in place and there is strictly no smoking on and around the course. If someone in your group lights up please politely remind them of this rule – no exceptions as the consequences could be quite severe for the Club. |

Some of the Crusaders squad joined customers of DB for their annual event here at Harewood today. A good time was had by all players and there wasn't a scrap of food left after the BBQ! |
