Dear Guest, Friday, 14 February, 2020

Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

The country continues to bake under the summer weather and drought conditions are close to being called in many parts of the country. The course is suffering the effects of minimal rain over the last 6 weeks. Colin and is green keeping team of Dan and Jared are working hard to maintain the course in great condition in the trying conditions. Testament to this is the attached letter received from Canterbury Golf congratulating Colin and his team in the presentation of the course for the Canterbury Stroke Play last weekend. Canterbury Golf congratulated Colin and his team for presenting the course in superb order and presenting a course that players found tough in the conditions and provided a reality check for amateurs on what it is like to play a quality golf course. In keeping with the course theme there is a volunteer’s morning to help with gardens, mulch raking and pinecone management on Wednesday the 19th at 9.30am. Please if you can spare an hour or two to help the team of hard-working ladies led by Julie Jones. The course is closed again for the Eagles Golf Society National convention on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday the 26th of February. This weekend the Men play a Monthly Medal of Black / Blue /White tees dependent on the grade. Ladies have Jean Tench all irons or a Bisque Par. The 4-ball best ball competition gets underway with qualifying rounds for the Men and Ladies on the 22ndof February. Men have 2 rounds to qualify (best round counting), Ladies have one.

Driving Range sponsor Jennian Homes have agreed to also sponsor this year’s 4BBB competition, by way of a $500.00 voucher for both the men’s and woman’s winners. Consequently, this has now been renamed as The Jennian 4BBB Competition. Best of luck for your weekends golf!

The first night of 8 was held on Tuesday with a fantastic field of 47 taking on the front 9 in perfect weather.

The scoring reflected the great conditions with David Ott (22) taking the Men’s honours over John Hamilton (21) on c/b with Tim Wenmoth grabbing nearest the pin. Jill O’Neill had a great night for the Ladies with a nearest the pin and 22 points ahead of Joy Lord on 19, also on c/b.

A big thanks to Craig Grant from Merivale Fresh Choice who are supplying the fabulous meat packs for raffle each week.

Summerset at Avonhead – Silent Art Auction

Our principal sponsor Summerset (Avonhead) are organising and hosting a silent art auction, with proceeds going to support those affected by the Australian bush fires.

They have already received 35 donated artworks. The auction will run from Tuesday 3rd to Thursday 6th of March and is being held in their Recreation Centre.

Attached is a basic poster and information and they want as many people as possible to visit the village, view the works and make bids on the artwork over the three days.

Please support if you can.

Volunteer Working Bee - Wednesday 19th February 9:30am

We will be spreading mulch on the gardens and clearing some areas of pine cones.

Please bring a rake and or a shovel. Gardens have all been done, so this will make future weeding minimal.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Julie Jones
