Dear Guest, Friday, 17 July, 2020

Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

It was good to see a full club house last Saturday after the first multi tee start since opening day. Due to the COVID 19 shutdown a couple of shotgun starts were missed from the programme and the programme was re-adjusted to allow the programme to catch up on what was missed. It was a maximum full field, and although we had some teething problems with cards, play was not delayed too much, and the weather turned on a good day. Some lessons have been learned from some of the issues that occurred last Saturday. The weather this weekend is not looking promising for golf on Saturday; showers are forecast so break your jackets and umbrellas out again. Please if you are going to withdraw from playing on Saturday due to the weather, please advise the Proshop so adjustments to playing groups can be made. It is a par round for the men, and ladies have hidden holes.

Next weekend is the Jennian Homes 4BBB final for men and ladies.
Ladies Final: Debbie Scott & Ann McKenna Vs Annabel Chadwick & Victoria Webb- Smart

Men’s Final: Tony Marriner & Steve Thomas Vs Allan Double & Les Keys

Well done to players who have made the finals.

The interclub season is approaching if you are interested in playing in Woodward, Simon or Blank please talk to Guy Chambers, Gavin O’Hara or Phil Barlow in respect to playing in these teams. Canterbury Golf also have an Over 50’s and over 60’s competition, played once a month for 6 rounds from October. If you are interested in playing in this competition, then please let me know.

The Club championships are scheduled to begin with a qualifying round in mid-August. The match committee meet next week to confirm grades for the club champs. The programme will revert to what is printed in the 2020 programme book from 1 August (Monthly Medal).

AGM 2020

The very positive AGM was held on Wednesday night with 57 in attendance.

Of special note was the appointment of a new patron David Shipley which was widely applauded, especially when he said he would shout the bar! Congratulations Dave and thank you for your continuing great support of Harewood. Other points of note are;

         - Subs will remain unchanged for the 2020/21 season

         - Phil Badger, Debbie Scott and Jamie Mountier re-elected to the Board

         - The reciprocal arrangements with Bottle Lake and Templeton won’t be renewed after 31 August. The existing deal with Waimairi Beach will continue and we have agreed terms with Waitikiri who will join the reciprocal arrangements from 1 September.

Clubhouse Heating

Some of you will know the main clubhouse heating has been off for a few weeks now due to a major issue with the central system.

We have been advised that it will be advisable to look at alternative heating solutions rather than repair/replace the old unit, which to be fair is well over 25 years old.

This will be a substantial up-front cost to the Club but will be offset by much reduced power bills.

Please bear with us whilst we assess various systems and quotes.

Bereavements

Our condolences go to the family and friends of past members Albie Hughes and Ray Pullan, both of whom passed away very recently.
