The country outside Auckland going to COVID Alert Level 2 has changed the way golf is to be played. You would have received updates from Neville this week outlining the changes that have been needed to be put in place to allow golf to continue. Flagsticks are to be left in and bunker rakes have been removed. There is a local rule in place in respect to bunkers. Players are also requested to practice social distancing one course and in the club rooms, and please be vigilant on hand washing and hand hygiene. There is a QR code on the front door of the clubrooms to allow checking in with the contact tracing app. We need to be increasingly aware of this requirement, more so than previously with the possibility of community transmission. If you are unwell do not come to play golf!
I am aware that as I write this that playing golf could stop if there is a further change in COVID alert status, with the update scheduled to be announced on Friday afternoon.
The change in COVID status and several players being unable to obtain tee times to play on Saturday has led me to adjust the qualifying for club champs. A notice around his was sent out yesterday. Men's Club Champs qualifying rounds changed to 2 rounds of 3.
The 3rd qualifying round will be the 29th of August which was proposed to be the first round of 16 match play. The 29th of August is the first round of a one tee start, and more players should be able to play over the day with earlier tees time being available and be able to qualify.
It will double as September’s monthly medal. The first round of match play will then move to the 6th of September and the draw will return to what is in the programme.
The forecast for the weekend looks as though it will be a cold and frosty start. It is more than likely that the course will be closed before 10.00am. There is a frost forecast with -2 predicted for Saturday morning. For those players who have booked in the slots before the 10.00am 2-tee start there is a high possibility that the course will be closed. We have one more week of 2 tee starts before Saturdays revert back to a single tee start from no. 1 tee on the 29 August.
Last weekend the weather cleared for Saturday golf and beautiful conditions for the opening rounds of Simon, Blank and Woodward Cup Interclub competitions. The Ladies Pollock Cup starts this weekend with our Harewood Ladies hosting the first round and playing Christchurch. The Woodward Cup team had a good win against Templeton (5&3), and have Hororata this weekend, The Blank team went down to Waimairi Beach (5 &3) and have Coringa on Sunday. Good luck to all the teams.

Please support the Ladies donation box in the club rooms for the garden upgrade for the outdoor seating area or come along to the Volunteer garden morning working bee in 2 weeks’ time. The results that have been achieved around the course are visible and make a great impact how our course presents from the efforts of the team of regulars in the gardens.
Best of luck for the weekends golf; stay safe, wash your hands and be well.
