Dear Guest, Friday, 06 November, 2020

Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

The greens are recovering from the coring and the recent rain over the last 10 days has seen the course be in good condition. The weather for Saturday is looking cool and overcast, but Sunday is looking wet. The Metro A and B teams have matches at home on Sunday. Metro B take on Rawhiti and Metro A take on Waitikiri at home.

This weekend is the final round in the Monthly medal. It is a mixed tee of white, blue and black tees for the respective grades. The finals will be held on the 5th of December. If you have a won your grade in any of the monthly medals, then you will be contacted to play the final round of monthly medal on this date. The Peninsula Beachfront Resort Shootout is nearing completion, this weekend does not count as it is off mixed tees, there is one final round on the 14th of November for the top 19 players to play the Shootout Sunday on the 22nd of November. A score of 222 combined 6 best rounds at present will see you in the final. There has been a couple of late withdrawals so those close to qualifying may sneak in. The shootout is scheduled to start at 8.30am on the 22nd, finalists will be notified prior to this of the rules of the day.

The Ladies Tekapo Luxury Apartments shootout was decided on Sunday 1st of November with the winner being Mary Lock and runner up was Fiona Nicholls. Many thanks to Ray and Annette Tansey for the donation of the first-place prize.

Armstrong Motor Group Twilight – Night 2

38 players braved cool, breezy conditions on Tuesday for night 2 of the 6 night series 2. The scoring on the more difficult back 9 was still pretty hot in both comps.

Going back-to-back for the ladies was Lydia Pomeroy with 22 stablefords ahead of Lynley Gainsford who took 2nd place on countback over Jill O’Neill, both on 20 points. Barbara Ford took away the NTP prize on #15.

The Men saw some great scores recorded with 23 points from Hamish Hodgson, winning on countback from Nigel Paterson with Ben Potter (22) in 3rd place. Hamish also took out NTP on #13.

The COVID-delayed Twilight series 1 also concluded on Tuesday night with both comps going down to the wire. Series 1 was an 8-week series with the 5 best stableford scores counting. For the Ladies a score of 20 points on the final night gave Lynley Gainsford (98) the win over Victoria Webb-Smart (95) with Jo McNicholl 3rd (92).

It was a nervous night for some in the Men’s division but Andrew Vickers held on to take 1st with 102 points over Neville Bamford (100) and David Ott (99).

Winners enjoyed over $1,100 in prizes so a huge thanks again to Armstrong Motor Group and Merivale Fresh Choice for their generous support of our Twilight.

We take a break next week due to Cup Day but will resume on Tuesday Nov 17th for night 3. Bookings in the pro shop are essential please so we can be organised on the night and please make sure you are here in plenty of time to get to your starting tee.
