Dear Guest, Friday, 20 November, 2020

Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

The fine weather last weekend produced some low scores and high stableford points. It resulted in a shift in the shootout table with some players shooting up the table and a few dropping back into a tie for the 19th players. There is a 6-player tie on 222 (average of 37 stableford points) which means there is a shootout decider at the end of Saturdays play to drop 3 players to decide the 19 players who will start on the first on Sunday. The shootout Sunday can be a long day at the golf course, with 19 players starting on the first it can take over an hour to play the first hole.

A number of players had outstanding rounds on Saturday. In division 1 Scott Manyweathers had 63 off the stick (10 birdies one bogey) and Matt Mclean had 64 (9 birdies + one bogey). In division 2 David Clarke had a 77 for 46 stableford point and was chased by Gill Harris with an 81 (with an 8!) for 45 points. In the ladies Lorraine Bamford had a great round 88 for 46 stableford points. If you didn’t score 40+ points on Saturday, you didn’t make the top 5 in either grade.

The weekends forecast is looking NW and warm for Saturday and a little cooler SW for Sunday. There may be a bit of wind about to push balls about off the tee. It may not be as warm and as benign as last weekend. This weekend the men have an Irish Stableford and ladies have a choice of stableford off the yellow or white tees. There are two events coming up in the programme, firstly the monthly medal finals day on the 5th of December. If you have won a monthly medal this year you are invited play in this. Tee times will be booked and players will be advised of this in the next 2 weeks. Secondly, on the 12th of December is the Closing day Christmas hamper tournament. There will be 2 starts 8am and 12.30pm (different from the programme). A booking sheet will be in the Proshop from next week.

The aim of the Harewood meet is simply to connect people with KGC members in Christchurch, to have a great day of Golf at Harewood, and to play for some cool prizes. ultimately, the 19th is where our community grows - so we're looking forward to meeting and swapping 4-putt stories with the members at Harewood!”

Armstrong Motor Group Twilight – Night 3

The 3rd round of 6 in the AMG Twilight Series 2 saw 38 players battle it out in strong winds initially before it calmed to be a beautiful evening here at Harewood.

The front 9 saw excellent scoring again from the Ladies with the in-form Lydia Pomeroy making it a three-peat with 22 points with Susan Lovett (21) and Denise Guerin (20) not far behind. NTP on hole #3 was Jo McNicholl. Lydia has quite a lead at the halfway mark with a minimum of 4 rounds of the 6 needing to count.

The Men’s division was a little more clear-cut with Nigel Paterson producing his best-ever 9 hole score here shooting 41 for an impressive 24 points followed by newcomer Michael Daly (22) and Ben Potter 3rd (21). NTP also went to Michael on hole #6. Nigel has a decent lead in the Men’s comp but he’s not on a high handicap for nothing which would indicate he’s very catchable :) See you Tuesday folks!
