Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

It’s the final Saturday of competition golf his weekend. The monthly medal finalists play a stroke round to decide the medallists in the respective grades. There has been a number of withdrawals from the finalist’s fields, and with COVID 19 reducing the number of monthly medal events played this year the finalists are reduced in number. Out of the 3 grades the best Nett score overall will be the winner of the Tekapo Luxury Apartments weekend package. Along with the accommodation for the weekend there are rounds at the Cairns and Tekapo golf courses, a stargazing trip and a restaurant voucher. Thank you to Ray and Annette Tansey of Allprint for the donation of this prize.

Players divots are still a problem on our course. I played this week and managed to empty 3 buckets of sand into divots in 7 holes. With the recent rain the ground has softened and whether players have become complacent in respect to filling divots it is noticeable the number of divots out there. Please remember to carry and use your sand bucket to replace and fill your divots.

The men are playing for the Closing Day Cup, which is a combined stableford pairs, ladies have the first weekend of the Summer Cup Stableford. Next weekend is the Christmas Hamper day shotgun. There are two starts either 8am or 12.30pm. Please enter in the Proshop, if you want to play with a partner then please advise the Proshop. Shotguns are a great way of meeting and playing with other members.

The Race to Millbrook competition was decided last weekend after two players ended up tied at the completion of the competition rounds. After leading for the majority of the season Errol Hume was pipped on the final round by Helen Beswick. The Race to Millbrook was decided by a Nett round with Helen shooting a Nett 73 to Errol’s 76. Thank you to Bruce Maetzig for the organisation and collation of the scores for this competition and to the members who donated the prize package.

Armstrong Motor Group Twilight – Night 5

The penultimate round of the AMG Twilight Series 2 was played in very nice conditions with 41 players hoping to score well to bridge the gap on the leaders.

As it turned out the leaders extended their respective leads with another great week of scoring and with one round to go it looks like the minor placings in both Men and Women is where the interest will lie next Tuesday.

Lydia Pomeroy had her 4th win with 21 points from Diane Deuart (19) and Amelia Ching (18) on countback from 4 others. NTP on #6 was Jo McNicholl.

The Men’s division saw Jason Blair take his first win with 22 points from series leader Nigel Paterson (21), who got rid of that pesky, lowly 19 points from round 1 and now has 4 rounds in the 20’s, with Ben Potter sneaking 3rd with 19 points from 2 others. NTP went to Hamish Hodgson.

Both Lydia and Nigel can relax into night 6 in the knowledge they have unassailable leads, but anything can happen for the also-rans.

See you all for the final night of prizes on Tuesday.
