AGM AND CLUB DEVELOPMENT 13 JULY– By General Manager

Yesterday the final information for the AGM was sent out to everyone. I hope you all get a chance to read over it in the weekend.

I wanted to highlight the presentations we look to present after the AGM. Over the past year the board, staff and committee members have been working on 3 very important documents to help drive the club forward.

They are:

  • Club Strategy - Presented by Richard Attwood (GM)and Lorraine Bamford (Board Member)
  • Course Plan – Presented by Chris Clarke – (2IC Superintendent)
  • Clubhouse Plan – Presented by Richard Attwood (GM)

These plans will help guide us over the next 5 years, drive our reinvestment and operational plans. We hope that our club members would like to support the ongoing developments that we are to present on the night.

We look forward to seeing as many people as possible on the night.

NEW STAFF MEMBER – COURTNAY JONES

This week the club has welcomed our newest member of the team, Courtney Jones. Courtnay will be based in the office and will be covering office work, events, and the Pro Shop. I am sure you will all make Courtney welcomed and support her as she learns the intricacies of a Golf Club.

Weekly Update – By Club Captain Phil Barlow

After a couple of wet weekends, it was great to have a fine day even if the turf was heavy. It was great to see some sun on a Saturday. It was also great to see that many had made the effort to look after the greens and fix pitch marks. Let’s continue that and remember to take sand buckets for the rest of the course.

The men had their Monthly Medal off the yellow tees for the year which presented some interesting results which actually had a DotGolf PCC adjustment of 2 which implies a harder than usual round regarding conditions. The women had LGU, Putting and Paterson Salver.

Men’s Interclub – Upcoming trial

We have been trying to pull together interested players for the men’s interclub for the 3 top grades for the season and have a trial this Sunday from 9:30am. Sorry for the incorrect date last week, but it is this Sunday 9 July. Contact me at phil.barlow@gmail.com or txt me at 021488993 if you have not received an email and are keen. The weather forecast is pretty undesirable, but unless the course is closed, we are on!

Last week we farewelled a long-time club member when Phil Rotherham passed away. Phil was a member of the club for several years and was a strong supporter providing sponsorship of the new practice green area (see the sign onsite) as well as a board member. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.

Saturday 15 July is a multi-tee start with a hearty breakfast beforehand for those interested. Tee off is at 11:00am, so please register your interest the Pro Shop know if you are interested and let them know if you are interested in a breakfast meal beforehand. While we don’t have a price at the moment, it is a great meal at a good price so be in! It will be the normal Saturday competitions being run for men and women but from multiple tees. Stableford for all.

This weekend’s competition is BCHP semi-finals, others 4BBB for the men and for the women, Hidden Holes Stroke.

Pro Tip of the week – Undercover pro

Practicing Your Intermediate Target Alignment

Next time you are on the range see if this tool is effective for you by trying the following:

  • Pick a target 150 metres in the distance.
  • Pick an intermediate target in line with in and get aligned to hit a shot using the intermediate target as your alignment aid.
  • Put a club against your feet and ensure that club is aligned parallel to your ultimate target.
  • Repeat this process for a total of 10 alignments with different targets in the distance.

Rule of the week – Advice from others (Rule 10.2a)

Advice

During a round, a player must not:

  • Give advice to anyone in the competition who is playing on the course,
  • Ask anyone for advice, other than the player’s caddie, or
  • Touch another player’s equipment to learn information that would be advice if given by or asked of the other player (such as touching the other player’s clubs or bag to see what club is being used).

This does not apply before a round, while play is stopped under Rule 5.7a or between rounds in a competition.
