Firewood

For those lucky enough to have a fireplace, the club has firewood ready to be picked up. The wood is ready to go in the fireplace and has been outside drying since winter. The money raised will go towards new trees to be planted as part of the course development plan. If you would like to pick a trailer load up, please contact the office to arrange pickup. Cost is $200.00 for a single axle trailer with a cage. This is a first in first served basis so be quick!

We need to move these items so we can have space for our new season items arriving in the coming months, so make you talk to the pro shop team about our sale. Weekly Update - By Club Captain Phil Barlow

As we head towards summer officially starting and the season of the jolly man, the course is firming up, and the rough is brutal. Saturday was a sunny but breezy day, and the shorts are appearing on more players every week. A quick reminder, if you think your ball may have either gone into the rough, or even be close to it, please play a provisional to keep the field moving. It was great to see some of the women members having a go from the white tees on their white/yellow tee day, with a very impressive 67 nett from Lorraine Bamford – well done.

A reminder that the Christmas shotguns will go forward as per the programme, so please contact the Pro Shop if you wish to play in one of them, as it is a popular day in the calendar. We will be reprogramming the Centenary shotgun in the 2024 calendar.

The Twilight series is still in place and next week will be round 5 of 6, so have a hit in the evening, bring some friends and have a catch up afterwards. Let the Pro Shop know if you are interested. There are meals available after your round too! Tee off is 5:30pm.

It’s great to see New Zealand golfers in the news lately. Steven Alker winning on the Champions Tour, Sam Jones picking up a DP World Tour Card, Ryan Fox gaining a PGA card, Kerry Mountcastle winning a Super 6 in Australia, Dan Hillier finishing well on the Race to Dubai alongside Foxy, Kazuma Kobori having a 3^rd place finish in his 2^nd professional start at the Victorian PGA, Ben Campbell winning the Hong Kong Open and lastly, our own Matt McLean getting a start in the Australian PGA this week.

This weekend, the men have Irish Stableford, and the women have their Closing Day Stableford, Josie Dwight Trophy, and Prizegiving.

Results for last Saturday

There were 13 2’s last Saturday earning $16 each, and the Nett Eagles hole (#9) was struck with $103 being shared amongst 2 players.

Think like a Tour Pro

Don’t be tempted to aim at a pin in the corner or back of the green, as an example if the pin is on the left-hand side near the edge of #3 aim 5 metres to the right of that because its much easier to 2 putt from there than get up and down from the short side.

Be smart mentally and watch your scores come down!

Rule of the week – an obscure I found interesting.

Don’t Mess With The Gators (Rule: 16.2 – Dangerous Animal Condition)

The examples used in the rules of golf are a poisonous snake or an alligator. You can drop another ball (no penalty) no closer to the hole, but away from the dangerous situation.

There are limits to this rule. You can’t claim to be scared of a butterfly because you don’t like your lie. PGA Tour professional Bryson DeChambeau learned this in 2020. Bryson was playing in the first round of an event when his drive ended up in the woods and his ball was resting behind a stick. He hated the lie.

Bryson called over an official, pointed out a few ants, and asked for a free drop because the fire ants should be considered a dangerous animal. They could bite him. Ultimately, he did not get the ruling he wanted. The tour official deemed the ants were not likely to cause the player serious damage. Good try Bryson!
