Member News – 12 January 2024

2024 General Manager

Happy New Year to you all. I hope everyone has had a chance to have a break and is ready for another year. It has been a very hot start to the year, so when out on the course please ensure you have water available and sunscreen on before starting. We have also had a busy start to the year, so please ensure you have secured your tee time and carts in advance of playing.

New Club Sponsor

I am happy to announce that Team Ransley Harcourts have joined the family of club sponsors. A current member, Jaden has kindly supported the club by covering the cost of the new sand bucket area and 200 new sand buckets beside the number 1 tee. A great initiative to ensure everyone is able to maintain the course. Make sure you say high to Jaden if you see him out on the course.

Ladies Notice – Lesley Hedges

Kelly Nicholls 1969 -2024

It came as a massive shock to hear of Kelly’s sudden passing, from pneumonia, at the beginning of this year. She was farewelled on Wednesday at a huge funeral, testament to the many people whose lives she had touched. We heard much of her love for and pride in her family, her loyalty and generosity as a friend, her love of life and the many adventures she had enjoyed. It will come as no surprise to those who knew her to learn also that she was something of a rebel from an early age, that she could be headstrong, was determined and a very straight talker!

Just of as golf was important in Kelly’s life so too was Kelly a valued and lively member of our club. She joined Harewood about three years ago and, no shrinking violet, soon made many friends. She was a keen participant and with typical Kelly enthusiasm, embraced playing both during the week and on Saturdays and had signed up for interclub. Kelly was an accomplished golfer with a handicap of 14 and had been down to 10.  She had also volunteered to be on the Women’s Committee this year, utilizing the many skills she had acquired in the course of her successful business career.

Although Kelly died far too young, she had packed so much living into her 53 years. We will miss her one liners, her drive and zest for life, her love of a drink and a good laugh, that “robust manner of speaking” and the fun she brought to our golfing lives.

Our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
