General Manager - Richard Attwood

Clubhouse and Course Development

Another big week of work completed around the club this week. Kitchen flooring and walls will be completed today, with the stainless steel going in on Monday.

The course is notably different this week, with trees down near 14 green and 12 tee now down. The Wood’n’Tree team is nearing their last week on course with further trees on 14 and 12 going down next week. The slash will be removed from the course in the coming weeks.

Mounding has started on 13 and will continue onto holes 9,5 and 4 next week.

For those playing on Monday we will have three trucks moving fill onto hole 9 from 8:00am. Please park outside the orange cones and to the right of the car park.

Thank you,

Club Captain Update – Phil Barlow

A timely reminder we are in Autumn came last Saturday with colder temperatures and a bit of drizzle for the afternoon players. That being said, and after all the rain we had on the Thursday, the course is playing well and in great condition with plenty of run still happening on the fairways. There was also plenty of talk amongst players during the round as we all start to see the work take place on the course. Some of your aim points may need to be changed with so many trees being felled.

The Metro B team is playing in the final against Bottle Lake at McLeans Island this Sunday (21 Apr) at 10:00am. Best of luck to Glenn and guys in defending last year’s victory.

This Saturday sees the men playing Stableford from the Blue tees, while the women have Combined Best Nett. Play well everyone and enjoy your weekend.

There were 22 2’s paying out $11 each, and Nett Eagles went to hole #12 with no winner so we have a jackpot for next week.

Pro Tip – Craig Mitchell

After watching this Masters Tournament, it was evident how many putts were missed because of the wind and the speed of the greens.

So having said that I have 2 things you can try when the wind is really blowing:

  • Take a wider stance for stability.
  • When you have addressed the ball, wait if it’s really gusting for the wind to drop a little and then putt.

Rules tip

Question – how long is 2 club lengths if I want to tee off back from the tee blocks on a par 3?

Sometimes you are able to take advantage of the rules that we are provided with to make our golf easier. This is one that helps if you are struggling to select a club on a par 3.

If you are between clubs on a par 3, the rules state you can take 2 club lengths back from the markers. The key thing to note is that it is not 2 club lengths of the club you are playing, rather the longest club in your bag, except a putter. So, in reality, using a driver to measure, you can tee from nearly 2.4 metres back from the tee blocks.
