Club Updates - Richard Attwood
Course Update
This week stump grinding has started on holes 8, 10, 12 and 14 with more to come next week. We will start the removal of the slash next week. That means players won’t be losing so may golf balls and golf can be played at a good pace.
Aviation Drive - Access
The traffic management on McLeans Road over the last 2 weeks is due to work being completed on Aviation Drive. Due to the ongoing effects of cars, damage and rubbish being left on the side of the road, Aviation Drive will have restricted access from 24 May.
There will be public access between 7am – 6pm during the week and no public access throughout the weekends. As a result, we will not have access to our side gate at hole 15 as it is within the restricted area.
Club Captain Update – Phil Barlow
The cooler air with a light wind made for some changes in clubs on a few holes. Winter conditions are certainly coming along. After a very slow pace of play the previous week, it was much better last week, so thanks to all that took note of the pace of play notes in last week’s Woodlands Word and made the effort. Admittedly it was all off the white tees for men, but there was still 167 members through on club day. You will see that the results for the men are in 3 divisions this week because of those numbers.
One of the unwritten rules of golf is its integrity and honesty requirements with scoring. We are noticing that there are many cards not handed in each week, and in fact they get tagged and listed in the results of the DotGolf system. The handicapping system relies on players handing in their cards so please take note and do so. Just because the round didn’t go the way you wanted doesn’t mean you don’t have to hand in your bad (or good) card, it’s all part of being a good sport.
The finals of the Harewood 4BBB for both men and women will take place on Saturday. The finalists are as below. Good luck to you all in one of the club’s key competitions.
- Women: Jill O’Neill and Jo McNicholl versus Lesley Hedges and Janet O’Brien
- Men: Barry Coleman and Guy Chambers versus Nathan Low and Stephen Harrison
I am sure you will all agree that the clubrooms are looking great after all the cleaning and paint work and lastly the new signage. It certainly gives a more modern look and feel now.
This weekend sees the finals for the Harewood 4BBB for both men and women, with all others playing a 4BBB competition as well.

There were only 9 x 2’s paying $31 each. Nett Eagles was hole 15 and had no winner, so will jackpot.
Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell
Having trouble holing short Putts try this.
For short putts, put the ball in the middle of your stance and make a much more compact putting stroke. Shorter back and shorter through. This will help you stop decelerating and be more positive
Rule of the week – When Ball or Ball-Marker Moves on Putting Green (Rule 13.1d)
There are two specific Rules for a ball or ball-marker that moves on the putting green.
- No Penalty for Accidentally Causing Ball to Move. There is no penalty if the player, opponent, or another player in stroke play accidentally moves the player’s ball or ball-marker on the putting green. The player must:
- Replace the ball on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated) (see Rule 14.2), or
- Place a ball-marker to mark that original spot.
- When to Replace Ball Moved by Natural Forces. If natural forces cause a player’s ball on the putting green to move, where the player must play from next depends on whether the ball had already been lifted and replaced on the putting green (see Rule 14.1):
- Ball Already Lifted and Replaced. The ball must be replaced on the spot it moved from (which if not known must be estimated) (see Rule 14.2), even though it was moved by natural forces and not by the player, the opponent or an outside influence (see Rule 9.3, Exception).
- Ball Not Already Lifted and Replaced. The ball must be played from its new spot (see Rule 9.3).
