Member News – 11 March 2022

Weekly Update – from Club Captain Phil Barlow

A nor’easter wind greeted last Saturday’s players with the men playing a multi-tee Monthly Medal and the women LGU. As we enter into autumn golf, we have been lucky with the occasional showers through summer to help keep the whole course green this year though I am sure many would have rather had a bit more summer weather this year.

This weekend sees the start of the men’s 4BBB playoffs. Best of luck to all who have made it. The women’s 4BBB playoffs start the following week. If the case arises where we have Covid cases interfering with the prescribed rounds, please make an effort to play any matches in the off weekends between rounds. We all should be making an effort to get through the programme as best we can under the circumstances.

Just a note that the men’s AllPrint Shootout entries will close off on the last Saturday of March, so if you want to be in for a chance at the biggest prize pool we have in our golfing calendar, get in soon.

Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell

With the fairways getting dryer out there, instead of putting from the fringe, use your hybrid. The hybrid will be easier to make good contact and will cause the ball to skid along and get through the fringe a lot easier.

Rule of the week (6.2 b (5))

Ball Is Not in Play Until Stroke Is Made. Whether the ball is teed or on the ground, when starting a hole or playing again from the teeing area:

  • The ball is not in play until the player makes a stroke at it, and
  • The ball may be lifted or moved without penalty before the stroke is made.

If a teed ball falls off the tee or is knocked off the tee by the player before the player has made a stroke at it, it may be re-teed anywhere in the teeing area without penalty.

But if the player makes a stroke at that ball while it is falling or after it has fallen off, there is no penalty, the stroke counts, and the ball is in play.
