Weekly Update – By Club Captain Phil Barlow

Being an “afternoon” golfer, I am not used to playing with no wind. It was a welcome change to have none all day last Saturday as well as nice a golfing temperature. The course is playing well for this time of year with the greens continuing to be a nice club player pace as well as having lots of grass. It was great to see so many of the men entering into one of the clubs bigger events, the BCHP. Good luck to you all for the Matchplay rounds a little later.

The annual Metro A vs Metro B interclub teams clash of the titans took place last Sunday with a total of 32 players (16 in each team) taking part. It was an interesting mix of players and handicaps this year with some Metro B members handicaps dropping so much during the year that they were giving Metro A opposition shots for the Matchplay. The Metro A team won all but 2 ½ matches and so took out the cup for the year. A reminder that the Metro A team took out the Canterbury competition, so congratulations to Glenn Bunting and the team. The Metro A team just missed out on being in the finals this year.

This weekend has both men’s and women’s Harewood 4BBB semi-finals. All others for both men and women have Stableford. Good luck to all of the 4BBB semi-finalists this weekend.

Two’s were $16 each and Nett Eagles was hole 13 – one winner, Bruce Chalklen.

Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell, Club Pro

How to hole more short putts (between 4 and 6 feet)

A great way to hole more short putts is to decide what speed you going to hit the putt before you decide on the line.

So, if a 4-foot putt is uphill, you may decide to play it firmer with less break. If the same length putt is downhill right to left, you may decide to hit it softly but triple the break.

Rule of the week – (Rule 11.1) Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence

No Penalty to Any Player

If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence:

  • There is no penalty to any player.
  • This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent, or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment.

Exception – Ball Played on Putting Green in Stroke Play: If the player’s ball in motion hits another ball at rest on the putting green and both balls were on the putting green before the stroke, the player gets the general penalty (two penalty strokes).

Upcoming Saturday golf (for full details refer to the 2023 programme).

13 May – Men and women have semi-finals for Harewood 4BBB. All others have Stableford.

20 May – Men’s and women’s Harewood 4BBB final. Other men have 4BBB Par, and women have 4BBB.

27 May – Men: All Irons off the yellow tees, or Par from the White tees. Women: Centenary FMS Stableford Rnd 4.

3 June – Centenary Kings Birthday Shotgun – Stableford – 11:30 start.

10 June – Note: Winter 2 tee starts today. Men: Monthly Medal. Women: LGU Rnd 5, Putting, Sullivan/Dodgson finals, Harewood Cup Rnd 3.

Enjoy your golf.
