Course Development Update – General Manager

Thank you all for your positive feedback as the team continues the work on the course. Unfortunately, due to the wet weather on the weekend and the team being struck down by Covid, Wood’n’Tree have not been on the course this week. If all goes to plan, they will be starting back up on Monday. This will result in hole 13 being closed on Monday. Further updates will be provided to you by the Pro Shop team on your arrival.

Weekly Update – By Club Captain Phil Barlow

The Centenary Shotgun on Kings Birthday weekend went well with all holes in play after a week of tree felling on the course. While it is now a bit cooler, we were greeted to a fine day with little wind, and a course playing well for this time of year. The greens had been rolled and were playing as we have now been accustomed – ‘nice’.

By now most of you will have had a hit on the course with its new look and feel. Please be patient while the course updates are taking place. There will be various parts as GUR while the improvements take place, however it will be worth it once completed. Thanks to all of the staff and contractors for making the effort to give us all 18 holes over the long weekend, it is appreciated.

This weekend’s competition is Monthly Medal for men from the white tees, and LGU Rnd 5, Putting, Harewood Cup Rnd 3, Qualifying for Williamson & Thompson Trophies for the women.

Pro Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell

Every golfer on the planet makes bad decisions and bad swings during a round of golf. It’s how you deal with this that can make a massive difference to your golf.

Try the following: after taking ten steps forward after your golf shot, the previous decision or shot must be gone and your complete focus needs to be on the next shot.

Rule of the week – Relief from Ground Under Repair (GUR) (Rule 16)

When You Get Relief

You get relief from GUR when your ball, stance or intended swing is interfered with by the area. If any part of your ball or stance lies on the marked line, it is considered in the GUR.

Relief Procedure

When dropping from GUR, you must take the nearest point of relief (stance) and one club length. Make sure you drop the ball no closer to the hole. The ball must be dropped from knee-height. This is a change from the previous rule where you were allowed to drop from shoulder height.

If you are still standing in the ground under repair after you dropped, you must drop again. Your ball is in play after you have dropped and there is no interference from the GUR.
