Winter is coming! I watched the weatherman on the TV getting excited about the incoming Southerly front to end the period of benign weather we have had over the last month. Unfortunately, the forecast for this Saturday’s 11.30 am Shotgun doesn’t look good. For those who are super keen I will be packing my wet weather gear. A decision will be made on Saturday morning.
Matt McLean heads away on his overseas adventure, to play some US amateur golf tournaments on Saturday. Best of luck Matt and we wish you well. It is a great opportunity for you. Matt has been training hard, and the money raise in the fund-raising tournament has allowed him this opportunity without financial stress.
Winter tee times start on the 8th of June starting at 10.00am off 1 and 10. The available slots in the Saturday fields are reduced from what are available when we play off the summer tee times off 1. Please be reminded that it is important to be on time for your tee booking, play ready golf and be aware of the field around you. If you are early starter off the 1st tee, you may be required to wait until the last group has teed off the 10th tee to slot in behind them.
Canterbury Golf Referees ran course for the 2019 R&A rules, and a number of Harewood members attended the level 1 course. Several sat the exam with Fiona Nicholls and Judith Blyth passing, Helen Burne passing with Merit and Anne Dick passing with Distinction. Anne also passed level 2 with Distinction (90% or more). Congratulations to all!
Last Saturday, the thick fog that hung around closing the airport eventually cleared around 2 pm. It was eerie to play golf in these conditions, and certainly made hitting a straight ball important. The men who entered in the BCHP match play qualifying, the draw has been made, and will be posted next week. The first round is scheduled to be played on the 15th of June.
