General Manager - Richard Attwood

I have been working from Twizel this week with my son taking part in the Maadi Cup for the first time, so I have been heading down from my makeshift office to the lakeside to see the boy’s row against our countries up and coming juniors, which may one day become our future Olympians. It has been great seeing so many impressive junior athletes putting in 100% a sport that requires so much dedication for 6 months of the year.

Clubhouse Development

While I have been away the clubhouse is taking shape and further work has been completed. Further repairs have been completed, with only one area of repairs left and is to be started late next week in the ladies’ changing rooms and bathroom. (weather dependant) I have been sent updates daily from the contractors, so I know things are on track, so I look forward to seeing the clubhouse on my return. All going to plan the clubhouse should be completed in the first week of April.

Club Update – Doug Claridge

I was not around on Saturday, but if the hard frost down in Fairlie following Fridays southerly would have meant a cold start for golfers in the 8 am shotgun start. There was a good field in the morning shotgun and a reduced field for the afternoon shotgun due to a large contingent of Harewood members away at the annual Fairlie 500. Sam Watkinson played some great golf on the Sunday (rounds of 67 and 68) to come away the winner of the best gross.

This weekend sees the second round of the Mens Harewood 4BBB, the next round is scheduled for Saturday the 9th of April. There is a single start shogun on Easter Saturday (next weekend) with a 11.30 start. Entries are being taken by the pro-shop.

The Mens Metro B team had a close loss (3.5 to 4.5) against Templeton in the final round robin round at Russley. They finished in 4th to make the semi’s and play Russley on the 7th of April. The Metro A team won against Waitikiri (5 to 3) to finish in 6th spot. The next Canterbury golf interclub in the calendar is the Woodward/ Blank / Simon cup which begin in August. For those on a single figure handicap and are interested in playing please look out for the dates of trial matches/ expressions of interest which will be happening in June / July.

Junior Match Play Interclub Competition – Luke Gainsford

Another fantastic day of golf for Harewood’s Junior Team, who braved the chilly morning conditions against Futures Canterbury at Hororata.

Plenty of quality golf on display from all our players, led by wins from Fin and Jacob, whose efforts ensured a memorable team result on a beautiful course.

The team were great representatives of the Harewood Golf Club, and a pleasure to supervise on the day, with excellent knowledge, self control, and sportsmanship.

The results were - Harewood vs Futures Canterbury 2:2

Seiji Dimitrov -gross 87 (lost 5/4)

Tom Gainsford - gross 96 (lost 8/7)

Jacob Robertson - gross 90 (won 2/1)

Fin Trewinnard - gross 88 (won 6/5)
