General Manager - Richard Attwood

Clubhouse Development

As you will see the painters were on site a little earlier than expected which we can’t complain about. They are making great progress so far considering the damp weather we are having at the moment. On Monday we will have contractors here removing Asbestos from the front of the men’s changing rooms. The main entrance to the clubhouse will be shut as well as the door to the men’s changing rooms. You will be asked use one of the side doors, so please be patient and following the signage that we will have in place.

Course Development

Some have asked about the blue dots on the trees around the course, these indicate the trees to be removed in April and clear direction for our Tree team.

General Course Reminders

  • A reminder to everyone to carry a sand bucket when on course.
  • Repair your pitch marks.
  • No smoking on the course due to the dry conditions we have around the region.

Club Captain - Phil Barlow

Saturday greeted us with a very humid day for Canterbury albeit with a couple of showers. Quite a few members commented it felt like they were playing golf in Auckland. With a gentle breeze, the golf balls were flying far, and some very good rounds were posted at the end of the day as you can see in the results. Other comments from players were about how short the course is playing with some good run out on the fairways, so we are certainly still in summer mode.

The 4BBB competition finalists have now been found for 2024 with the Pro Shop posting tee times for 9 March sometime soon, so keep a look out if you are one of the finalist pairs.

Tip of the week – Craig Mitchell

This sounds funny but it works.

Next time you have a short putt try really hard not to try really hard – sometimes we all try too hard to make the putt and things don’t work out :)

Rule of the week.

This week I thought we could take a slightly humorous look back at what some of the original rules of golf were. Here are a couple from 1744.

“If your ball comes among water or any watery filth, you are at liberty to take out your ball and bringing it behind the hazard and teeing it, you may play it with any club and allow your adversary a stroke for so getting out your ball.”

“Neither trench, ditch or dyke, made for the preservation of the links, nor the scholar’s holes or the soldier’s lines, shall be accounted a hazard; but the ball is to be taken out/teed and played with any iron club.”
