Member Update

Hi again everyone,

I wish I had a decision for you about our ability to open under L3 but as per the email below from NZ Golf we are having to wait for a Government decision until possibly the end of the week.

The email reads;

To All Golf Clubs, Golf Facilities and District Associations

Dear All,

New Zealand Golf is continuing work with government on what a move to Alert Level 3 will mean for golf.

There has been much public commentary about this and while positive statements have been made by Members of Parliament and the National Crisis Management Centre, we still do not have absolute clarity on our ability to play golf at Alert Level 3 and the conditions around this.

We had been expecting confirmation on this by the close of business today however we have now been advised the guidance for golf (and other sports) is still being worked on. We are hopeful this advice is not far away but it is possible it may not be received until the end of this week.

As soon as we have the information from government we will immediately be in touch with you all. We are in their hands with the timing of this.

We remain very hopeful that golf, in some manner, will be able to be played from next Tuesday however we do need the official confirmation from government.

Please be in touch with me if you have any specific questions. Otherwise I will be back in touch as soon as I possibly can.

Kind regards,

Dean Murphy
Chief Executive
New Zealand Golf

Ends.

Whilst NZ Golf remain optimistic members must also be prepared for a No Go decision.

If we are allowed to open then expect to see some fairly strict rules of play. These may include playing in 2’s only (possibly only within your bubble), online bookings only (to ensure contact tracing), 10 to 15 minute tee times, no pin flags and no scorecards/handicapping system.

Not golf as we know it but better than no golf.

Frustrating for all of us I know but very little we can do other than wait.

Stay safe all.

Neville
