Dear Guest, Friday, 25 September, 2020

Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

It is finals weekend for club champs this weekend.

The Senior and Intermediate Men and Ladies Silver and Bronze A grade play a 36-hole championship teeing off from 8am with a second round starting at the back of the field at 12.45 pm. The 18-hole matches for the Junior A and B for the Men and Ladies Bronze B and Plate tee off around 11 am. Please be aware if you are caught by a club championship match that the match has priority over the rest of the field. It is a stroke round for the competition of the day on Saturday for the men.

It was noticeable last week where the delays are on a Saturday round. It is not uncommon to see a blockage at the start of a round at hole 2 and 3 which then spaces out over the next few holes. It is a stroke round this weekend, so play a provisional ball if you are wayward off the tee and remember the new rules of golf - 3 minutes to look for a ball before declaring it lost. The rough is starting to thicken up!

This weekend we all lose an hour’s sleep – daylight saving starts on Sunday morning. Don’t forget to put your clocks forward. This means that getting out for a few holes after work is possible as the days get longer. The Twilight competition will get up and running towards the end of October.

The club champs’ finalists are:

New Staff Member

We welcome member Luke Welsford to the pro shop staff on a part-time basis as cover for Craig and Andrew.

As we get closer to Summer the pro shop will be extending its hours of operation and with the driving range being increasingly popular we need more resources to manage this.

Please say hi to Luke on your next pro shop visit.

Sponsor of the Week – Hole #12 FreshChoice Merivale

Merivale FreshChoice owner Craig Grant enjoyed our Twilight comp so much he’s back as a hole sponsor on #12.

His new layout in Merivale is fantastic and make sure you check out (excuse the pun) the temperature controlled, glass walled wine room while you are there.
