Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

Autumn is upon us - the days have become shorter and from this weekend being the Autumn equinox the days only get shorter to the longest day in June ... the year is moving on quickly!

Four ball match play is a great format and can lead to a very enjoyable battle against your opposition pair. A game can be won by one player having a great shot or getting a shot on a hole. Congratulations to the winners in the first round; the 2nd round is scheduled for the 27th of March, with a break for three weeks when the 3rd round is played on the 17th of April. Matches need to be played on or before the scheduled next round. If you are needing to change your match date, please advise the pro-shop or myself so the draw can be adjusted. Players who are playing the second round will have been advised of their tee time for the next round on the 27th of March.

The course is playing well, having played earlier this week it as noticeable how good our greens are. Please help to keep them good by repairing your pitch marks. It is a common gripe in all golf clubs around the world, even the pros have issues with them. If you are unsure how to repair a pitch mark Ian Poulter gives a good simple demonstration in how to do so with this link:

There is a red HGC logo jumper in the lost property box in the pro shop. There is a name written on the tag but it is too worn to identify clearly.

Please enquire at the pro shop if you think it is yours.

Armstrong Motor Group Twilight Series 1 2021 – Final Night 6
Allow images

We had 44 players on our last Twilight for Series 1 2021 who were all looking to improve their positions and make some inroads into the leading players Jason Blair and Annette Pringle.

Round 6 winners for the ladies were Jo McNicholl with 18 points on countback from Catherine Butts, with Annette Pringle 3rd on countback with 17 points. NTP on #6 was also Catherine. The Men’s comp was very close with 3 players all on 19 points. On countback the winner was HGC Chairman Phil Badger from Brad Double and Johnny Sharland. NTP for the men was Tom Grimshaw on #3.

Our series leaders were always going to be hard to catch and so it proved. Jason Blair and Annette Pringle both had 84 stablefords over their best 4 rounds to each win a $250 voucher at Merivale FreshChoice. In 2nd place was Brad Milne (80) and Lynley Gainsford (on countback with 74) from Tony Carroll (79) and Lydia Pomeroy (74). Well done to them and a big thanks for those who took part during the 6 weeks.  The final tables are attached.

A huge thankyou to Armstrong Motor Group for their support of our Twilight and also Merivale FreshChoice who provide such great meat raffles every week. Our Series 2 2021 starts on Tuesday October 26th so I look forward to seeing many of you again then.

Senior Mens Interclub 2021

The Woodward, Blank & Simon Cup competitions are scheduled to get underway in early August.

Planning has started early and we will be communicating registrations of interest and trial dates to eligible members shortly. We are confident we can field strong teams in all Cups this year and the aim is to feature on finals day in all 3, with at least one trophy making its way to Harewood.

We were due to host the finals day on Sunday November 7th but unfortunately it looks like the date needs to change and it will be hosted elsewhere.
