Weekly Update – from Club Captain Phil Barlow
First up, well done to those who actually read Woodlands Word and noticed the errors I purposely put in as a test. The Easter Mixed Shotgun is not a “Missed Shotgun”, and the two tee starts do not start this weekend, there is a while to go yet. Apologies for those clearly incorrect items.
OK, into it. Another great day for golf last Saturday, and once again some fantastic scores made. The women played an LGU nett comp round, with a Putting and Harewood Cup round as well. The men had a Monthly Medal off the blue tees.
Remember that we are having a Masters Monday with breakfast at the club while watching the last round of the Masters on Monday 11 April. There will be a full breakfast provided by G & T Catering for $20 and the opportunity to enter a sweepstake for $10. Please email Neville with your interest at neville@harewoodgolf.co.nz. Non-members are also welcome. For those who wish, there will be some golf from 1:30pm onwards.

Pro Tip by Craig Mitchell
This is my strategy for chipping when the fringe grass is wet and long.
Pick a spot a metre on the green, and chip with the club that will run from there to the hole. The counter intuitive thing here is you are using more loft for your short shots and less loft for your longer shots.
Rule of the week (Relief from Abnormal Course Conditions - Rule 16.1)
Q: What is an abnormal course condition and when is relief allowed?
A: (condensed) Relief is allowed (as below) from interference by animal holes, ground under repair, immovable obstructions or temporary water.
- The player’s ball touches or is in or on an abnormal course condition (at our course – think rabbit hole or scratching’s as an example),
- An abnormal course condition physically interferes with the player’s area of intended stance or area of intended swing.
Find your nearest point of relief and use the one club length to give you a drop zone.

Thursday 7 Apr- Waitikiri Teams Stableford
We had a total of 34 entries but due to a storm (?) on Wednesday night and a bit of rain on Thursday morning, we ended up with 21 starters. Whilst a little damp under foot, conditions improved throughout the day. Score were mostly not great by either side with Waitikiri retaining the trophy 29.35 to Harewood’s 28.15. Thanks to all those who stayed and played - we enjoyed good company. Waitikiri return to Harewood in October, and better conditions hopefully.
